Student answer (Band 5.5)
There are lots of social and practical problems when living a country which speak foreign languages. Because it is a communication barrier and it driven people for lots of problems. On the other hand we can improve our knowledge towards a foreign language by living a country which use a different language. Therefore, I partially agree with the given statement.
On one hand, there are numerous disadvantages of using a foreign language. Sometimes it mislead us during some conversations. It causes plenty of misunderstandings among the people. Furthermore, it make a huge gap while comuunicate with people. It make a serious social issues. Sometimes we can't express our feelings properly such as empathy, sadness, kindness due to this language barrier. And also, in the cases such as hospitalisations, it is very difficult to gain proper informations from a patient who uses a different language. As an example, at a public hospital in Sri Lanka there was an incident due to language problem. The patient's family understood wrongly the given advices and the condition of the patient got worsen.
On the other hand, we can improve our knowledge towards a new language by living with the people whon use a different language. It is very beneficial if we can learn different languages and it helps us in a different way. As an example, we can use it for our career development and we can use it for improve the relationship with the people using another language. As an example, in many companies if an employee has knowledge of different languages, they gave some rewards for them.
In conclusion, there are some countries use different languages and living such countries may cause huge problems such as social and practical problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you partially agree, recognising both the difficulties of language barriers and the benefits of learning another language. You address social problems through examples such as difficulty expressing empathy and misunderstandings in conversation, and practical problems through the hospital example. The career and relationship benefits also respond to the other side of the issue. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: the career-development benefit, for instance, is supported mainly by a general claim about company rewards. The conclusion repeats that problems exist but does not restate your balanced position or weigh the benefits against the problems. Develop the examples and make your final judgement more explicit to address the task more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the main direction easy to follow. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical: “As an example” is repeated, and several sentences begin with “It” without a fully clear reference, as in “It make a huge gap” and “It make a serious social issues.” The conclusion also does not clearly connect back to the stated partial agreement. Improve progression by grouping related effects together, varying linking expressions, and using precise references to show how each point follows from the previous one.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “communication barrier,” “misunderstandings,” “empathy,” and “career development,” so the reader can understand the main ideas. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate or repetitive. Phrases such as “improve our knowledge towards a foreign language,” “make a huge gap,” and “gain proper informations” are not natural in this context; “language skills,” “create a barrier,” and “obtain accurate information” would be clearer. There are also spelling and word-form slips, including “comuunicate” and “advices.” Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling, countability, and natural word combinations when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “Because” and a conditional structure with “if.” The main message is generally understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and verb forms reduce accuracy. For example, “when living a country” needs an article and preposition, while “it driven people” and “it make” have incorrect verb forms. The opening fragment “Because it is a communication barrier…” would be stronger when joined to the preceding sentence. There are also errors in “the condition of the patient got worsen” and “use it for improve.” Practise accurate clause construction and subject–verb agreement, then proofread each sentence for complete structure and correct verb patterns.
