Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that language barrier while living in any country can cause seriuos social problem. I largely agree with this view because it retards the growth due to linuistic issues and give raise to racisim, although it is necessary to learn for some optional qualification.

The primary reason why I agree is that professional engineers, doctors and even businessman find it hard. This mainly because they have to communicate in foreign language while having foreign professional trips.

As a result, their professional growth suppressed. For example,a phd scholar goes to sweden from pakistan to attend a meeting on biodegradation but due to language barrier enable to write the mints of the meeting and cannot even negotiate with the locals. This demonstrates that foreign language can cause serious social as well as practical probelms.

Another important reason is that this attitude leads nations toward racisim. When some fluently speaks native language, they will be judge as a nationalist and as compare to the others who cannot understand.. Consequently, foreigners face practial problems. A clear example of this is seen in Itlay, where italian speaking people are more preferable for jobs. Although some people may argue that it is imporatnt to learn foreign language while pursuing any language specific degree, I believe that language specific degree does not automatically grant a professional license, some other requirement are also needed.

In conclusion, I agree that people face issue while living in such country where people have to speak native language primarily, due to cultural difference and other factors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I largely agree”) and conclusion, and you give relevant reasons involving professional communication and employment. The examples of a Pakistani scholar in Sweden and job preferences in Italy help connect your points to practical consequences. However, the response does not fully explain how these situations create serious social problems: the discussion focuses more on professional difficulties, and the claim that language differences lead to racism is asserted rather than clearly demonstrated. The counterpoint about language-specific degrees is also not fully connected to the question. Develop each main idea with a clearer explanation of its social or practical impact and make sure the example directly supports that explanation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “The primary reason,” “As a result,” and “In conclusion” make the overall progression easy to follow. However, some connections are unclear or mechanical. For instance, the shift from language ability to being judged “as a nationalist” is difficult to follow, and “Although some people may argue” introduces a counterpoint that is not clearly developed or answered. Some references, including “this attitude,” do not make it clear exactly which idea they refer to. Improve cohesion by making the relationship between each claim and its example explicit, and use more precise referencing rather than relying mainly on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-relevant vocabulary, including “language barrier,” “professional growth,” “negotiate,” and “cultural difference,” and these choices show an effort to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. However, the range is limited by repeated general wording such as “problems” and “issues,” while several inaccurate word choices or collocations make meaning less clear. Examples include “give raise to racisim,” “mints of the meeting,” and “more preferable for jobs.” Spelling errors such as “seriuos,” “practial,” and “Itlay” are also noticeable. Build a more precise vocabulary for social exclusion, workplace communication, and discrimination, and check spelling and common word combinations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use both simple sentences and attempts at more complex structures, including a reason clause (“because it retards the growth”) and a concession beginning “Although some people may argue.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical forms occur across the response. For example, “their professional growth suppressed” is missing a verb, and “When some fluently speaks native language, they will be judge” has problems with subject–verb agreement, articles, and passive form. The long sentence beginning “Although” also joins ideas without a clear grammatical relationship. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, verb forms, and sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence to ensure its clauses are complete.
