Student answer (Band 6.0)
Life in foreign countries could result severe social and practical challenges due to the necessity of speaking another language than their mother tongue. This essay discusses the drawbacks such as isolation and confusion while strongly agreeing with the given statement.
In contemporary society, many citizens of developing countries migrate to much more established nations to enjoy quality of life yet often come face-to-face with several challenges due to minimal understanding of local languages. Limited number of acquaintances due to the aforementioned language barrier is one of the key issues of this since it limits interactions and smooth communication with others. For instance, an individual who had a large friend-circle in his motherland might have trouble forming new friends if they have a limited range of vocabulary, which results in severe social distancing among such migrants.
Meanwhile, such people might come across with hurdles when managing day-to-day activities due to communication issues. For example, a person without a basic linguistic capabilities to understand and speak a particular language that a majority of a specific country speaks will create confusion when using certain facilities like going to a doctor appointment. He or she will have a difficult time in explaining her symptoms which might lead to inaccurate diagnosis from the medical expert and, in turn, will find difficulties in accessing basic human requirements they need.
Clear communication is the key to a successful life and living in abroad might get drastically difficult enhancing social and practical problems like deterioration of mental well-being and limited access to human needs. Hence, i completely agree that one has to overcome some significant challenges when living abroad, if they do not know the most used language in that country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction, which says you “strongly agree,” and the conclusion reinforces this view. You address both social and practical problems with relevant examples: difficulty making friends and explaining symptoms to a doctor. These examples make the response directly relevant and show the main consequences of language barriers. However, the social point is developed more fully than the practical one; the medical example would be stronger if you explained more precisely how misunderstanding could affect treatment or access to services. The opening also promises to discuss “drawbacks such as isolation and confusion,” but the essay could explain the seriousness of these effects more fully. The response covers the task well overall, while some ideas remain less developed than they could be.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for social and practical difficulties, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from social isolation to problems with daily services is logical, and examples generally follow the points they support. Linking phrases such as “For instance,” “Meanwhile,” and “Hence” help guide the reader. At times, however, connections feel mechanical or references are unclear. In “this since it limits interactions,” the reference to “this” is not precise, and “Meanwhile” suggests contrast even though the paragraph adds another related problem. The conclusion also introduces mental well-being and access to human needs without developing these points earlier. More precise referencing and smoother links between claims and examples would strengthen the progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “language barrier,” “acquaintances,” “communication,” “diagnosis,” and “mental well-being.” These choices help convey the main ideas, and some less common expressions show an effort to write formally. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural or imprecise, such as “forming new friends,” “come across with hurdles,” and “limited number of acquaintances.” Phrases like “basic human requirements” and “the most used language” are also less natural than more precise alternatives. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your argument, but they reduce fluency and precision. Aim to learn vocabulary in common word partnerships and choose expressions that fit the specific context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including complex clauses with “which,” “if,” and “when,” and the overall meaning is usually clear. Some sentences are controlled, such as the example about a migrant having trouble making friends. However, there are recurring errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms. For example, “Life in foreign countries could result severe…” is missing a required preposition, while “a person without a basic linguistic capabilities” has an article–number mismatch. In “living in abroad might get drastically difficult enhancing…,” the structure is difficult to follow, and the final sentence has an unnecessary comma before “if.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although they rarely obscure the intended point. Review articles, agreement, prepositions, and clause construction, then proofread complex sentences.
