Student answer (Band 6.0)

Living in a foreign country often parents individuals with multitude of challenges. It cane causes serious problems with both social life and practical daily tasks. I completely agree that living where people speak a different language creates major challenges.

On the practical side, not knowing the local language makes everyday life very hard. Simple tasks like finding a job, open a bank account, or renting an apartment become huge obstacle. For example, in a medical emergency, a person might not be able to explain their sytoms and their problems to a doctor, which can be dangerous. Also, a qualified professionals often have to take low-paying jobs becasue of language barriers.

On the social side, the inability to speak the language leads to loneliness and isolation. Humans need to share converstaion, humor, and cultural to connect with others. Without this immigrants often feel left out of the local community. Many people deal with this by staying only with other foreigners, which stops trem truly fitting into the new culture.

These problems usally get better over times as people take language class and practice everyday. Modern traslation apps also help with quick communication. However, the first period of living abroad remains very stressful.

In conclusion, moving to a country with a foreign language clear social and practcile strugles. Althous these issues can be fixed with a time and hard work. They are major challenges that need strong support systems to overcome.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that a foreign-language environment creates both practical and social challenges. You address both parts of the statement and give relevant examples, including difficulty explaining symptoms to a doctor and feeling excluded from the local community. The conclusion also recognises that language classes and translation apps can ease the problems. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for instance, the claim that qualified professionals take low-paying jobs would benefit from a clearer explanation or example, and the social effects could be developed further. The response is 11 words below the required minimum, so it does not meet the task’s length requirement; adding relevant development would help address this as well as strengthen the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on practical and social problems, a paragraph acknowledging improvement over time, and a conclusion. Topic sentences such as “On the practical side” and “On the social side” make the organisation easy to follow, and “However” signals a useful contrast. This meets the lower-band expectation of clear overall arrangement and shows some of the stronger progression expected at the next level. To make the flow more consistently smooth, connect examples more explicitly to the claims they support and avoid abrupt transitions. For example, the move from social isolation to “Many people deal with this” could clarify what “this” refers to, while the final paragraph could link the solutions more directly to the earlier problems.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “language barriers,” “loneliness and isolation,” “local community,” and “support systems,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “medical emergency” and “low-paying jobs.” However, spelling mistakes and inaccurate word choices are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “sytoms,” “becasue,” “converstaion,” and “traslation” are examples, while “parents individuals” appears to be an unintended choice. Some collocations are also awkward, such as “share … cultural to connect.” Greater accuracy with spelling, word forms, and natural combinations would make this vocabulary more effective and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the conditional “In a medical emergency, a person might not be able to explain…” and the contrast introduced by “Although.” Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “It cane causes” has an incorrect verb form, “Simple tasks like finding a job, open a bank account…” does not keep the items in a parallel form, and “a qualified professionals” has a mismatch between article and plural noun. The final sentence beginning “Although” is also incomplete as written. Check verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, and proofread each sentence to ensure subordinate clauses are attached to a complete main clause.
