Student answer (Band 5.5)

Language is a symbol of a specific region’s culture that makes difference from others, enables individuals to express their thoughts and emotions. In my opinion, although living in a country that demands to use their language may have some outcomes, encourage more relationships with others who shows similar interests.

On the one hand, the major disadvantages of speaking foreign language is that individuals can be failed to explain their genuine thinking, disable to express realistic feelings and occurring communication problems during usage of other tongue. For example, individual who does not entirely understand, pronounce and fell hesitate to speak that language may create socialising barrier. Consequently, explanations and ideas sharing can be difficult while using that foreign language.

On the other hand, social outcomes of using foreign language can create immediate, everyday hurdles and mental problems. Difficulties in healthcare and medical treatment can become considerably complicated, individual failed to explain their symptoms and unsuccessful to understand clear medical daily dosage prescriptions. Moreover, low level work or unemployment may be encouraged in individuals’ life because employers do not prefer staff who cannot explain something, understand orders and do not articulate ideas fluently. For instance, most individuals are rejected by employers due to language disparity or placed into low paid salaried positions. As a result, although foreign language adaption is essential while living abroad, language divergens may be negligible in some sites.

In conclusion, although foreign language usage have some implications, creates relationships and bonds more if a individual take emphasis to understand completely.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both social and practical consequences, with relevant examples involving difficulty socialising, explaining symptoms to medical staff, and finding work. Your opening also signals a qualified position, suggesting that language barriers can cause problems while interaction can build relationships. However, the position is not consistently clear: the first paragraph says language use “encourage[s] more relationships,” while the conclusion again emphasises bonds without clearly stating how strongly you agree that serious problems result. Some points are asserted rather than explained, particularly the claim that employers reject “most individuals.” Develop fewer examples with clearer reasoning and make your overall degree of agreement explicit throughout. This would make the response more fully address the question rather than leaving key ideas under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting contrasting points, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers identify the sections. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. The second body paragraph begins with “social outcomes” but mainly discusses practical and employment difficulties, and the relationship between its opening claim and examples is unclear. Some linking phrases, including “As a result,” do not clearly express the connection between the preceding idea and the conclusion drawn. The final sentence also introduces a positive point without resolving the argument. Group related ideas more clearly and use transitions that show the precise relationship between them.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “communication problems,” “medical treatment,” “unemployment,” and “language disparity.” This shows an effort to discuss social and practical effects beyond basic everyday terms. However, several word choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes make the intended meaning hard to identify. For example, “language divergens may be negligible in some sites” does not clearly communicate your point, while “low paid salaried positions” is awkward and “demands to use their language” is imprecise. Some expressions also repeat general terms such as “language” and “problems.” Choose familiar, precise collocations where needed, and check that less common vocabulary conveys the intended meaning in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction and a conditional idea in the conclusion. However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence structure frequently make the message difficult to follow. Examples include “the major disadvantages … is,” “individuals can be failed,” and “although foreign language usage have some implications, creates relationships.” The opening sentence also lacks a clear grammatical connection between its clauses. Practise building accurate subject–verb patterns and complete sentences before adding subordinate clauses. For instance, state one main idea clearly, then add a correctly formed explanation or example. More reliable control of basic structures would make your ideas easier to understand.
