Student answer (Band 5.0)
Living abroad where you have difficulty to speak a foreign language can have serious problems, and practising can be difficult,in this essay i am going to talk about the difficulty and at that the same time i wil say why i agree with it.
Recently, people leave their countries and go abroad to seek for opportunity but once the face problems like the language, communication is through a language, some people are not used to other customs, the education is not the same, not speaking a language can cause several problems, like the ability to express your self when you want to buy stuffs or if you want to ask for something,in case you have a problem, you realized you can not talk to people and whe police arrest you,you can not define yourself. For instance,a francophone who comes to Ghana a english country can encounter several problems one their culture, their language ...
it is not easy to live with people who don't speak your language, you feel bored,in case of a problem nobody can help you,and the way you behave matters too, trying to practise becomes a problem because it is not as easy to talk to a stranger as we think, some native are in introvert while others extrovert, they are playful and all,but practising don't come overnight, you need time, dedication and consistency.
In conclusion, it is not easy to live in a country where you can not speak their language,at the beginning everything will look difficult but with time everything will be fine,so i totally agree with this essay even though we have solution to a lot of problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is ultimately clear: you “totally agree” that living where you cannot speak the language creates serious difficulties. You address both practical issues, such as buying things or asking for help, and social challenges, including feeling bored and finding it hard to practise. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The example of a French-speaking person in Ghana is introduced but not completed, and the point about being arrested is not explained or supported. The opening also promises to discuss the difficulty of practising, but the essay does not consistently connect its examples to the question’s distinction between social and practical problems. Develop two or three relevant points with specific explanations or examples, and state your position more directly at the outset.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion, and the ideas generally relate to language difficulties. However, progression within the body paragraphs is hard to follow because many separate points are joined in long, loosely connected sentences. For example, the second paragraph moves from migration and customs to education, shopping, asking for help and arrest without showing how these points relate. Linking phrases such as “For instance” and “In conclusion” help signal stages, but some connections are unclear, and the Ghana example trails off. Use one main idea per paragraph, organise examples under practical and social problems, and use clear sentence boundaries and references to make the progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “customs,” “express yourself,” “native” and “practise.” There are also attempts to express more specific situations, such as asking for something or needing help. However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are inaccurate or unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. Examples include “seek for opportunity,” “buy stuffs,” “some native are in introvert,” and “a english country.” Repetition of “problem” and “difficult” also limits precision. Build a wider set of accurate phrases for communication barriers, social isolation and everyday tasks, and check collocations and word forms so that your ideas sound natural and precise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with clauses, for example, “once they face problems like the language” and “in case you have a problem.” However, the longer structures are often faulty, and frequent errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and verb forms make the response difficult to read in places. The opening has a comma splice, while “practising don’t come overnight” has incorrect subject–verb agreement; “when the police arrest you” also needs a clearer grammatical structure in context. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, and several sentences run together. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine ideas using accurate subordinate clauses and conjunctions. Proofread specifically for agreement, articles and full stops.
