Student answer (Band 4.5)

Yes, I agree with the statement that " Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause serious social problems, as well as practical problems." I strongly agreed with the statement because it feels difficult to speak or communicate in any other language. In a country, where you are bounded to speak any other language, it make you difficult to survive there. As you have to speak a language you can't know that, then even can not cummuniczte to the people around you, uou can not make understand shopkeeper what you want. You are enbale to discuss your disease with doctor. If you are student you are enable to make understand your teacher and classmate. If you are emplyee your collegue are unable to talk to you. As it is not easy to speak language you are not use to speak, it would definitly make your life difficult. Its not only difficult for you to make other person understand its also difficult fopr other person to make you understant his/her obective. As we are humans and could not live without the othe human. He would have to talk to other person, so when both pf could not know about each other language, it is hard for us to survive in a country where you have to speak in foriegn language. So, living in a country where you have to speak foriegn language can cause social problem, as well as practical problems.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that using a foreign language can create both social and practical difficulties. You give relevant examples involving communicating with shopkeepers, doctors, teachers, classmates, and colleagues, which shows awareness of both aspects of the prompt. However, these examples are mostly listed rather than explained, and the response repeats the general point that life becomes difficult without developing a specific example or considering the extent of the problem in more depth. The response also does not meet the required minimum: it contains 207 words, which is 43 words short, and 39 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop one or two examples and explain their consequences to make your argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response follows a broadly understandable line: it states agreement, gives examples of communication problems, and ends by restating the position. This gives the reader a basic sense of the argument. However, the ideas are presented as one long paragraph, with little separation between the different examples or between social and practical problems. Linking phrases such as “As you have to” and “So” are repeated, and some connections are unclear, particularly “Its not only difficult for you to make other person understand its also difficult…” Use separate paragraphs for the introduction, developed examples, and conclusion. Organise the examples into a clear sequence and use a wider range of accurate links so the progression is easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the central idea, including “communicate,” “survive,” “disease,” and “colleague.” The examples also show an attempt to discuss everyday situations rather than relying only on abstract statements. However, vocabulary is repetitive, especially the repeated use of “difficult,” “speak,” and “language,” and several inaccurate word choices or spellings make parts of the response harder to understand. For example, “bounded to speak” and “make understand” do not express the intended meaning naturally, while “cummuniczte,” “enbale,” and “foriegn” are misspelled. Build a more precise range of phrases for communication barriers and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences, for example by using “because,” “as,” and “when,” and the reader can generally identify your main point. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. Examples include “it make you difficult,” “I strongly agreed,” and “your collegue are unable to talk to you.” Some long sentences join several ideas without clear punctuation, which makes the relationships between them difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple sentence patterns first, then combine related ideas using clauses. Check subject–verb agreement and verb tense, and use full stops to prevent sentences from becoming overloaded.
