Student answer (Band 6.0)

Residing in abroad where we have to communicate with others in non-native language causes several social and practical issues. I completely agree to this opinion on the grounds of reasons like difficulties in day to day activities and socalization with other people in that particular country.

To begin with, living in other country and speaking unknown language make people feel discomfort in coveying their feeling because they are unaware to express their thoughts in that language. This will results in problems like problems in mingling with friends, communicting with colleagues in workspace, conveying their ideas to others and even feels issues in day to day activities like shopping also. I had a perssonal experience related to this context. Once I got an oppourtunity to attend a seminar in the UAE related to AI for teachers. At that time, I was completely unaware of Arabic and I felt hesitant to open up my ideas to others. I was the only non-native speaker there.Likewise, I was embrassed to use words in Arabic because I was not exceptional in Arabic. However, I overcome this circumstance by communicating in English.

Similar to practical issues, their are plethora of social issues also. When we use a language unknown to us, there is a probability to make mistakes in pronounciation, fluency and coherence. Additionally, there exist some words both in our native language and foregin language but the meaning of both are entirely different. Using such words cause serious social problems among the people. On top of that, misunderstanding in communication also leads to various social issues which are detrimental to both people.

In conclusion, communicating in unknown language cause serious social and practical problems because of lack of clarity in communication and misunderstanding. This is a demanding issue which is to be fixed through gaining a proper knowledge in foregin language along with native language.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you completely agree that using a foreign language can create both practical and social problems. You address both aspects, with examples such as difficulty shopping and communicating at work, and your UAE seminar experience gives the discussion a relevant personal illustration. The conclusion also restates your view and proposes language learning as a response. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that pronunciation mistakes or words with different meanings cause “serious social problems” would be stronger with a specific consequence or example. The practical and social effects are relevant, but developing the links between cause and impact more fully would make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for practical and social difficulties, and a conclusion. Signposting such as “To begin with,” “Additionally,” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the main stages, and the personal example is placed appropriately within the discussion of communication difficulties. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “Similar to practical issues” does not clearly signal the shift to social problems, while “This will results in problems like problems” is repetitive and makes the progression harder to follow. The seminar example also moves quickly from hesitation to the solution of using English. Use more precise transitions and clearer references, and organise each paragraph around a distinct point followed by explanation and an example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “non-native language,” “misunderstanding,” “pronunciation,” and “day to day activities,” and you attempt less common expressions such as “detrimental.” However, noticeable spelling, word-form, and collocation errors reduce precision: examples include “socalization,” “coveying,” “embrassed,” and “unknown language.” Some phrases are also unnatural or repetitive, such as “problems like problems” and “Residing in abroad.” These errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main ideas, but they make the writing less fluent and occasionally require rereading. Build accuracy by checking spelling and choosing natural combinations, such as “socialising with others,” “expressing their thoughts,” and “living abroad.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause (“because they are unaware…”) and a conditional structure (“When we use a language…”). The overall meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “living in other country and speaking unknown language make people” needs clearer article use and agreement, while “This will results” and “communicating in unknown language cause” have incorrect verb forms. In “I was the only non-native speaker there.Likewise,” punctuation and sentence separation also need attention. These are some recurring errors, though they rarely obscure the central message. Review subject–verb agreement and article use, then proofread sentence boundaries and verb forms.
