Student answer (Band 5.0)

If I'm living in such a countary in which I have to speak a forigen language can cause serious social problems and as well as practical problems I will obviously have to follow the rules of the country and I would be bound to speak the national language. But I think it is not a very good rule because we have to speak foriegn languages for the foriegn relations. The relations may be formal or informal or political. In political relations it is very important to speak foriegn or international language. I disagree to this statement that I already have given reasons. I agree to this statement to a very low extent in the way that it is good because people will respect and posses their national language. If this rule is applied on a countary this language concern can isolate them from the world because if they don't speak other countaries' language how could they intract with them? This rule can also damage their economy because language problen can also be a hurdle in businesses and trade in multinational companies. So this language concern can result into a loss for them. For example if that countary has beautiful resorts to visit and parks for entertainment perposes. some foreigner visitors want to visit thaose places and that will result as a benefit to the countary's economy but if there would be that rule applied, no one will visit and there will be a loss to that countary. It is because there would not be be the guides and translators for the visitors and it may be the reason for them to lose interest for visiting those places or thst countary.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You address the topic and give a broadly discernible view: you say you disagree, while also acknowledging that speaking the national language can help people respect it. The points about international relations, trade and tourism are relevant, and the resort example gives one practical consequence. However, the position is difficult to follow because you first describe being required to speak the national language, then refer to a rule that appears to restrict foreign-language use; the task is about the problems of living where a foreign language must be spoken. Social problems are mentioned in the prompt but are not developed in your response. To strengthen the answer, clarify your degree of agreement and explain both social and practical effects with specific supporting detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is some progression from your initial view to reasons involving international relations, business and tourism, and linking expressions such as “because,” “for example” and “so” show attempts to connect ideas. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, so the main points and conclusion are not clearly separated. The argument also shifts between a requirement to speak a foreign language and a rule against speaking other countries’ languages, which makes the line of reasoning hard to track. Several links are repetitive, and the final tourism example extends the same economic point rather than creating a clear concluding summary. Use separate paragraphs for your position, social effects, practical effects and conclusion, and make each transition reflect the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “political relations,” “economy,” “businesses and trade,” “multinational companies,” and “guides and translators.” These choices help communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “language concern,” “result into a loss,” and “intract with them.” Frequent spelling errors—including “countary,” “forigen,” “problen” and “perposes”—also make the writing less clear and reduce control of vocabulary. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe language as a “barrier to trade” and say that a policy “could harm the economy,” rather than relying on repeated uses of “rule” and “loss.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer structures, including conditional forms such as “if they don't speak other countaries' language” and a relative clause in “places to visit.” This shows an effort to go beyond short, simple sentences. However, complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow. The opening, “If I'm living in such a countary … can cause,” has no clear grammatical subject for “can cause,” and “I disagree to this statement that I already have given reasons” has an awkward clause structure. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “some foreigner visitors” and the run-on final example. Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then connect them with accurate subordinate clauses and punctuation.
