Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years, the issue of foreign language has sparked considerable debate. While some people believe that foreign langauge can influence the society, I strongly believe that foreign language can cause serious social problems. The reason is that in our country Pakistan mostly individuals did not understand this language. In this essay, I will examine the reason supporting my viewpoint and address potential counterarguments.

The primary reason why i agree that in Pakistan there are considerable proportion of individuals did not understand the foreign langauge. Due to the fact mostly people in our country are uneducated. If we talk to them in public area with this language so they do not pick the correct words. For instance, if we go to a shopping mall and we use foreign langauge instead of there nation language Urdu. Then we both face problem. As a result, it is clear that we first educate our society with foreign langauge.

Another compelling argument in support of my opinion is that foreign language also a practical problem in our society. This suggest that foreign language can also impact on the culture of Pakistan. For example, In Pakistan the nation language is Urdu and there are many languages like, Urdu, Punjabi, Sindi, Balochi. And they have different accent. They mention there culture and social life. Nevertheless, if we use foreign language in Pakistan. It can be challenging for individuals to understand this language.

Some may argue that foreign language is good because it can be helpful in future suggesting that if we go abroad for pursue study foreign language can be use and it will help them to live with multiculture individuals. I would argue that we should use foreign language in those places where other people can feel comfortable to talk.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that foreign language is increasingly challenging for people in Pakistan as well as also impact the society. This is due to mostly people in that country utilize there nation language Urdu.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear overall: you agree that using a foreign language can create difficulties in Pakistan, and you give examples involving communication in a shopping mall and the country’s languages. However, the response only partially addresses the prompt. It focuses mainly on people in Pakistan not understanding a foreign language, rather than explaining the broader social and practical problems of living in a country where speaking that language is necessary. The distinction between social and practical problems is not clearly developed, and the point about cultural impact is asserted rather than explained. Your counterargument about studying abroad is relevant, but the response does not fully weigh it against your position. Develop each reason with a clearer explanation of its consequences and a specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a counterargument and a conclusion. Signposting such as “The primary reason,” “For instance” and “In conclusion” helps readers follow the main direction. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the first body paragraph moves from education to a shopping-mall example and then to educating society without fully connecting these points. The second paragraph’s discussion of languages and culture also lacks a clear sequence. Some linking phrases, including “This suggest” and “Nevertheless,” do not accurately express the relationship between ideas. Improve cohesion by organising each paragraph around one main claim, then explaining and illustrating it, and use references and transitions that make the connections explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “social problems,” “practical problem,” “culture,” and “multiculture individuals,” so the reader can identify the subject of your argument. However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, especially “foreign language” and “problem.” There are also noticeable word-choice, collocation and spelling errors that sometimes make meaning less clear, such as “there nation language,” “pick the correct words,” and “considerable proportion of individuals.” Spelling errors include “langauge” and “Sindi.” Aim for more precise expressions for communication barriers and social effects, and check spelling and word forms carefully. Using a wider range of accurate topic vocabulary would make your explanations clearer and less repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional example beginning “if we go to a shopping mall” and a concession introduced by “Some may argue.” However, the range is limited, and complex structures are often faulty. For example, “individuals did not understand” does not fit the intended general present meaning, while “This suggest” has a subject–verb agreement error. Several sentences are incomplete or awkwardly joined, such as “Due to the fact mostly people in our country are uneducated.” Errors with articles, plurals, agreement and punctuation also recur, as in “different accent.” These patterns can make the reader pause. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check agreement and sentence boundaries when editing.
