Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a clear general view that you disagree, and you recognise that language barriers can create difficulties. However, the response only partially addresses the question: much of the essay shifts to the benefits of living abroad, such as “freedom,” “better education” and “transportation,” rather than explaining how speaking a foreign language causes social and practical problems. The point that people who do not learn the language “will not survive” is asserted but not supported with a specific example or explanation. Your final advice to learn the language also makes your position less consistent with the opening disagreement. Develop a few relevant reasons—such as difficulty accessing services or forming friendships—and explain how these problems can be reduced.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, and phrases such as “on the other hand” signal a change in direction. However, the overall progression is difficult to follow because the essay moves from disagreement to language barriers, then to the benefits of living abroad, without clearly connecting these points to the question. Several ideas are listed rather than developed, including “better education, transportation, international friend and make a good networking.” Linking phrases are sometimes used mechanically, and references such as “they” and “it” do not always make the intended meaning clear. Give each paragraph one main purpose, use topic sentences to guide the reader, and connect examples directly to your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “language barrier,” “communication,” “native language” and “networking,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning harder to understand. For example, “international friend” and “too much way” do not express your intended ideas naturally, while “flexibity” and “consequene” contain spelling errors. Repetition of “learn the language” and “problem” also limits precision. Build a bank of accurate phrases for social and practical difficulties, and check spelling and word forms when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional idea in “if they do not learn the language,” but complex structures are often faulty and errors occur frequently. For example, “living in a foreign country have” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “they will be face the problem” uses an incorrect verb form. Articles, plurals and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “serious social problem” and the opening run-on sentence. These errors sometimes make the reader pause to interpret your meaning. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement, verb forms and punctuation before adding more complex clauses.
