Student answer (Band 6.5)
Living in a foreign country where we have to speak different language can cause severe social and practical problems. I mostly agree with this statement because being in a place where you don't know how to communicate with the locals can cause unnecessary issues regarding day to day activities like travelling, ordering food and also making friends in office or in college.
People living in a foreign country face a lot of difficulties adjusting socially. Due to language barrier they can't blend in the local communities as people often don't understand the local humor and norms and traditions. For example, a person going to abroad for studies will have hard time making friends because he may not be able to understand what they are talking. Similarly, it is also difficult for locals to talk to us.
On the other hand, I also believe that with current advancements in language translating apps they provide sufficient help to commute and talk to locals. These apps help in daily activities such as buying grocery, ordering in a restaurant or travelling to a different location. For example, a person travelling to a foreign country can easily get around any place he may want to travel with the help of language apps. However making meaningful connections and having deep conversations with the people around is still difficult with these apps as they don't capture local humor or feelings from the statements being spoken by other people.
In conclusion, language barrier can give hard time to people adjusting to local norms and culture. However with the help of language applications they provide basic help to adjust locally.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you mostly agree that speaking a foreign language can create serious difficulties, while recognising that translation apps ease some practical problems. You address both social and practical effects, with relevant examples such as struggling to make friends while studying abroad and using apps to order food or find places. This meets the task well. However, the practical-problem discussion is developed mainly through the benefits of apps, rather than explaining in detail what problems arise when communication fails. The conclusion also repeats the main points without sharpening the extent of your agreement. To strengthen the response, explain a specific consequence—for example, misunderstanding travel information or being unable to resolve a problem—and connect it directly to your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the body paragraphs consider social difficulties and practical support from apps, and the conclusion summarises your position. Linking phrases such as “For example,” “On the other hand,” and “However” help readers follow the argument. The progression is generally logical, though the contrast introduced by “On the other hand” is slightly imprecise: the paragraph discusses a solution to practical problems rather than a fully opposing view. Some connections between ideas are also abrupt, and the conclusion’s “However” does not clearly show how its two claims relate. Use more precise transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit to create smoother progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including “language barrier,” “local communities,” “meaningful connections,” and “translating apps.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and the topic-specific language is generally appropriate. Some word choices and collocations are less natural, however: “making friends in office,” “hard time,” “buying grocery,” and “get around any place” reduce precision. “Different language” also needs a more natural expression in this context. There is some repetition of “help” and “local,” particularly in the final paragraph. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms; this would make the argument sound more fluent and controlled without changing its meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because,” “as,” and “However,” and your meaning is generally clear. Some grammatical errors remain. For example, “where we have to speak different language” needs an article, while “a person going to abroad” has an unnecessary preposition. In “they provide sufficient help,” the pronoun reference is unclear because it follows “language translating apps”; “these apps provide” would be clearer. There are also issues with plural and article forms in “buying grocery” and with punctuation spacing after “On the other hand,”. Review articles, prepositions, agreement, and punctuation, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
