Student answer (Band 6.0)

Every country in the world has their own culture, tradition, norms, values, and language. Sometimes people find it difficult to adapt the environment. It can lead to various problems both socially, and practically.

People who believe this have their own personal experiences. Travelling abroad for having foriegn education has become a global trend. Students from different parts of the world travel to countries like USA, Canada, Australia and many European Countries. Some students find it difficult to cope up with the local language. Mostly students studying in European countries like Germany, Italy, France etc face language problems.

Everyone has his or her own choice to study in such countries. Noone force them to go to a new place to persue their careers. People need to understand this fact that they would not be treated the same way as they have been treated at their own home. Every country has their own culture and one should respect that. Its very common thing that you should make yourself ready to live in a new country by learning the local language and understanding the local culture. Students from germany have shared the experiences that they have faced many social problems like the main problem was communication with the local community. Mostly they also find it difficut to find jobs in their respective fields because only local language speakers are preffered. This is why one should need to learn about the language before travelling to a new place.

In my opinion, its very much on the cards that you can face problems if you dont speak the langauge as I have experienced myself. My english was not fluent like native speakers here in England. That caused problems in understanding what the other peroson was saying and also landing in good jobs because native speakers were preffered. I totally agree with the statement that it can lead to problems if you dont know the local language of the foreign country you are living in.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that living abroad without the local language can create both social and practical difficulties. You address both aspects with relevant examples, including trouble communicating with local communities and finding work, then add your own experience in England. This meets the task well. The response also shows some development beyond a simple opinion, particularly when explaining how language affects employment. However, some points remain general or are asserted rather than fully explained—for example, the claim that people should prepare by learning the language could be linked more directly to how this prevents specific problems. To strengthen the response further, develop each example with a clearer cause-and-effect explanation and maintain a more focused argument throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, discussion of students abroad, a further paragraph about preparation and difficulties, and a personal conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant and can be followed. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose: the discussion moves from students’ choices to cultural respect and then to employment without clearly showing how each point connects. Linking phrases such as “This is why” and “In my opinion” help, but some connections feel mechanical, and “People who believe this have their own personal experiences” does not clearly introduce the next point. Use topic sentences to establish each paragraph’s main idea, and make references explicit so readers can see how examples support your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to discuss language, culture, education, communication and employment, with relevant phrases such as “local community,” “communication,” and “respective fields.” There are also attempts at more varied expression, including “global trend” and “cope up.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or informal, such as “for having foreign education,” “on the cards,” and “one should need to learn.” Spelling errors—including “foriegn,” “difficut,” “preffered,” and “langauge”—also reduce the accuracy of the vocabulary. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, but they limit precision. Aim for natural collocations and proofread carefully for spelling and word forms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses with “because” and “if,” and your meaning is generally clear. Some sentence forms are controlled, such as “That caused problems in understanding what the other person was saying.” However, there are some recurring errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction. For example, “Every country has their own” should use a singular possessive, while “Noone force them” needs a correctly formed subject and verb. “It’s very common thing” is missing an article, and “one should need to learn” combines incompatible modal forms. These errors rarely obscure your message, but greater control is needed. Review agreement and articles, and edit each sentence for a complete, natural grammatical structure.
