Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that people living in a foreign country where they do not know the language can face critical social problems and it will be hard for them to find a proper job. In my opinion working and living in a foreign country can cause some serious issues.

The main problem will be commuication if people live in a country where they do not speak their native language. It will be difficult for them to be a part of the community and to participate in social services. If a person lost or could not find directions it would be challenging for him or her to communicate and find the directions because the native residents of that country could not understand him and all the road signs will be in foreign language. For instance, if a person lost its valueable things, it would be nearly impossible to explain what has happend to him to the law enforcing agency they will need a translator for him which is also tiring for them.

Secondly, the other problem would be in job hunting. Foreigners can not get a job where they have to speak with the locals, they can not get any marketing jobs and a sales person job at a grocery store. Also they can not get a white collar jobs like lawyers, doctors and etc. because all of these jobs need a good grip on the native language.

In conclusion, people who do not understand or speak the native language of a country where they live, study or work face a lot of hurdles whether they are inform of social problems or work related problems, so if any one is traveling to a foreign country they should learn the official language of that country.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that living where a foreign language is spoken can create serious difficulties. You address both social and practical effects, especially communication in the community and barriers to employment, and the examples about asking for directions and reporting lost belongings are relevant. This meets the task, but the two main ideas are not developed equally. The social paragraph gives several situations, while the employment paragraph mainly lists jobs and says language is needed, without explaining how this affects access to work or giving a specific example. The conclusion also introduces studying, which is not developed earlier. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each problem and support the employment point with a concrete example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate problems, and a conclusion. The sequence from communication difficulties to employment is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Secondly” and “In conclusion” help the reader identify the stages of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and some links between ideas are unclear. In the first body paragraph, the sentence about losing belongings runs several points together, making the relationship between needing a translator and the agency’s difficulty less clear. The repeated use of “they can not” in the employment paragraph also makes the progression feel list-like. Use clearer sentence boundaries and connect each example explicitly to its consequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “community,” “directions,” “law enforcing agency,” and “white collar jobs.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “a good grip on the native language.” However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “commuication,” “valueable,” and “happend,” and some phrases are unnatural or imprecise. “Participate in social services” does not clearly express the intended idea, while “marketing jobs and a sales person job” is repetitive and awkward. These choices do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Check spelling carefully and choose collocations that describe the situation directly, such as “access public services” and “customer-facing roles.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use a mixture of simple sentences and longer structures, including conditional forms such as “If a person lost or could not find directions” and a relative clause in “jobs where they have to speak with the locals.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems reduce accuracy. For example, “if a person lost its valuable things” has an unclear pronoun and verb form, and “they can not get a white collar jobs” has a number-agreement error. The sentence beginning “For instance” also joins independent ideas without clear punctuation. Work on consistent subject–verb agreement, articles and singular/plural forms, and divide long sentences where needed. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentence forms clearer.
