Student answer (Band 5.0)
Living in a country where a foreign language is spoken generally cause serious social problems as well as practical problems. Whenever a person plans to relocate to a different country for future opportunities, he must consider language barrier as one of the important factors.
Many people agree to the fact that speaking foreign language causes the social and practical problems while others disagree. People believe that yor need to focus on your work and be restricted in your group having the same language. However, other school of thoughts strongly disagrees and believe that human needs to communicate to survive in the society. This is considered as the basics to be part of a new culture and country.
In year 2024, I planned to move to UAE where most of the work and nationals speak Arabic as their first language. Initially, it was hard to find a job because of such language restriction. Arabic speakers are majorly comfortable with those having same language which made the job search a difficult task. Even when I tried to attend multiple seminars or events where I can connect with more people, I failed badly.
The reason for my failure to not socially connect was the language barrier. Thus, as per my personal experience I believe language plays a major role in communication in society and offices as well. I have learnt my lesson from this experience and whenever I consider moving to a new country, I will focus to learn their language first.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You give a relevant personal example about moving to the UAE and explain how limited Arabic affected your job search and attempts to meet people. Your conclusion also makes your position clear: language barriers can create both social and practical difficulties. However, the discussion is only partial. The second paragraph presents opposing views but does not explain them clearly, and the response focuses mainly on your own experience rather than developing both types of problems with reasons or further examples. The required minimum is not met: the response contains 240 words, and the nine words copied from the task prompt are not counted. To strengthen the response, develop the practical and social effects separately and explain each with specific supporting detail.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, a paragraph mentioning different views, a personal example, and a conclusion. The UAE example gives the essay a central thread, and phrases such as “Initially” and “Thus” help signal sequence and result. However, progression is not consistently clear. The second paragraph shifts between opposing opinions without showing how they relate to your own position, while the final two paragraphs repeat the point that language affects communication. Some links are also awkward or unclear, such as “The reason for my failure to not socially connect.” Organise the body around distinct points—practical difficulties and social difficulties—and use clear references and transitions to connect each explanation to your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “language barrier,” “relocate,” “job search,” and “communicate,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “as per my personal experience.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations sound unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning less clear. For example, “other school of thoughts” and “Arabic speakers are majorly comfortable” do not express the intended ideas naturally; “language restriction” is also imprecise in this context. Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than formal-sounding phrases. Building vocabulary around employment, social integration, and everyday communication would help you explain the effects more precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “Whenever a person plans to relocate … he must consider” and a relative clause in “events where I can connect with more people.” However, complex constructions are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to follow. For example, “generally cause” does not agree with the singular subject “Living,” and “other school of thoughts … believe” has problems with number and agreement. The sentence “The reason for my failure to not socially connect was the language barrier” is also awkwardly constructed. Review subject–verb agreement, articles, and sentence formation, then proofread each sentence for a clear subject and verb. More accurate control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to understand.
