Student answer (Band 6.0)
Living abroad is necessity of the modern time. Living in a separate country needs a separate skill of language and if you can't speak that , you can face some social hurdles as well as some professional life hardships.
I agree with the statement to a large extent. Current era is full of opportunities and if you want to avail those opportunities, you must learn the language , where you want to live. For example, a person wants to go to Germany, he must learn some basic German Language to communicate easily. If he know the language, he will get the opportunity to communicate smoothly.
China is a blooming market but people there hardly know any other language. So, people with Chinese language skill, can do a lot of business there. He can do a business in so many easy terms than those who do not know the language.
Middle east can also be taken as an example. This is the land of opportunities but with very different and unique culture. if you now the language, you will get benefit of this land. The culture here is different . A person from Europe can travel to middle east but if he do not know the language , he can make trouble for himself. For example, He can do some sort of dressing and there might be some people who would try to tell him about the dressing. If he understands , he is good to go , if he does not, he can face the music sometimes.
It reminds me of a youtuber from UK in Afghanistan. He was on a visit to explore Afghanistan and he tried to make a conversation with a group of females , with his camera on. A local man reached to him and was was telling him to go away but he did not understand. This lead him to a huge problem and the youtuber got a hard blow on his face.
So, for me, if you are living somewhere, learn their language, at least , a basic conversational language. This could save you a lot of time and can open a window of opportunities for you .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you agree to a large extent, and the conclusion reinforces your view that learning at least conversational language is important. The examples from Germany, China, the Middle East and Afghanistan are relevant and show practical and social consequences, including communication difficulties and misunderstanding local expectations. This covers the task well, but the discussion is uneven: the Germany and China examples mainly concern business opportunities, while the question also asks about serious social and practical problems. The Afghanistan anecdote illustrates a social risk, but its connection to language ability could be explained more carefully. To develop the response further, distinguish practical difficulties from social isolation or misunderstanding, and explain how each example demonstrates the extent of the problems.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your position, separate paragraphs present examples, and the final paragraph gives a conclusion. This makes the overall line of argument understandable. However, progression between points is sometimes mechanical, with repeated openings such as “For example” and “So,” and the examples are not always linked back explicitly to the central claim. The transition from business opportunities in China to cultural difficulties in the Middle East could be signposted more clearly. Some references are also unclear, such as “This is the land of opportunities,” where the reader must infer that “this” means the Middle East. Use topic sentences to identify each paragraph’s main point and add brief links explaining how each example supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of relevant vocabulary, including “social hurdles,” “communicate smoothly,” “unique culture,” and “conversational language,” which helps convey the topic. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “face the music” and “blooming market.” However, several choices are imprecise or unnatural, including “Living in a separate country,” “professional life hardships,” and “do a business in so many easy terms.” Repetition of general words such as “language,” “opportunities,” and “problem” also limits precision. Some spelling and word-form slips, including “now” for “know,” distract from otherwise understandable meaning. Aim for more natural collocations and specific terms, such as “language barriers,” “employment difficulties,” and “conduct business more easily.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including conditional structures such as “if you can’t speak that, you can face…” and a longer example beginning “A person from Europe can travel…”. The main ideas are generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences awkward. Examples include “if he know the language,” “if he do not know,” and “This lead him to a huge problem.” There are also run-on or poorly joined sentences, particularly in the Germany example. Practise subject–verb agreement and consistent past-tense narration, and check sentence boundaries. For instance, write “If he knows the language, he will have more opportunities to communicate smoothly” and separate the Germany example into complete sentences.
