Student answer (Band 5.5)
People living in foreign countires faces extreme language barrier. This language barrier causes serious social distance issue because you cannot speak to anyone if you dont know their local language which causes the social issues. Moreover, people living in abroad also faces the language barrier in their jobs if they dont know their local language or the locals who dont speak English natively.
In foreign country each country have their own national language that local people speaks natively in their country. Most of the country follow English language as secondary because its widely spread all over the world. If the country is non English speaking or most of the people speak other language except English then this can cause social problem for a person who is living as a foreigner in their country. For example in Germany locals speak German and if a person move to germany from non country they may face a lot of social problems as a person cannot speak with anyone or asks anyone for help because of language barrier.
Even people moves in abroad for jobs in different sectors they still faces language issues even with their colleagues because a mostly multinational companies hires employees all over the world. They usually use English for communication for example, in BMW headquarter is located in Germany but their employees communicate in English.
In conclusion, I totally agree that a language issue can cause serious social problems as a person cannot even express their problem or cannot take any help in foreign country if a person cannot speak their native language.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You take a clear position in the introduction and conclusion, stating that language barriers can create serious social problems. The examples about asking for help in Germany and communication among employees at BMW are relevant to the topic. However, the response addresses the task only partially: it focuses mainly on social difficulties and gives little explanation of the practical problems mentioned in the prompt, such as accessing healthcare, housing, or public services. The workplace paragraph also shifts towards explaining how multinational companies use English, rather than showing how limited local-language ability causes practical difficulties. Develop both sides of the statement with specific explanations and examples, and make clear how strongly you agree with each.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The ideas are generally relevant, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships. However, progression is limited because the first two paragraphs repeat the general point that not knowing the local language creates social problems. Some connections are also unclear: the discussion of English as a secondary language and the BMW example do not fully explain the preceding point about difficulties at work. Use each paragraph to develop a distinct aspect of the argument, and connect examples explicitly to the claim they support. Clearer referencing and less repetition would make the overall progression easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “language barrier,” “social problems,” “foreign country,” and “communication.” However, the range is limited and several phrases are repeated, particularly “language barrier” and “social problems.” Some word choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “social distance issue,” “living in abroad,” and “speak natively.” These do not prevent the reader from understanding the general message, but they make parts of the response less natural and precise. Build a wider set of expressions for social isolation and practical obstacles, and check how words combine in English. More precise vocabulary would also help distinguish social difficulties from problems with work or services.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional structure in “if you don’t know their local language,” and the main meaning is usually understandable. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in agreement, verb forms, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “People living in foreign countires faces” should use a plural verb, while “each country have” also has a subject–verb agreement error. In “a person move to germany,” the verb form and capitalisation need correction. Several sentences run together without appropriate punctuation, such as the sentence beginning “In foreign country each country…”. Practise accurate sentence boundaries and agreement before adding more complex structures.
