Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is clear that living in a foreign country has its own benefits and drowback to consider. I agree with this statement , however i think that anybody coming in another country should respect national culture. In this essay i would like to outline the social and practical problems.

The social problem would be language barrier , which means that a person coming from another country might not be able to speak and understand that the language which might be a problem as far as person who is living in a country , and a person who came in the country . Another problem s linked to the language barrier, but it might influence the behaviour of others. And individual who come into the country might oftend others with their behaviour or language. Foe example, some cultures like english people prefer to be very polite and say things differently from other cultures, therefore a person who doesnot know how to behave in particular culture might offend others around him.

The practical problems would be misunderstanding of culture. that means that a person who visits other countries does not understand other culture and he behaves as he wants to.

The second practical problem is finding a job, an individual who works in foreign country might not appropriate for people who he serves. For example if an individual works in a restaurant the who lives in a country and they were born in that country might not respect and mot like the behaviour of a person who works in a restaurant, it might be because the culture are different.

The summarize, it can be said that there are a lot of misconceptions which people have when they come in a foreign country, and in my opinion and from my personal experience people should educated themselves in order to know how to behave in different situations with different cultures.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You take a position by saying, “I agree with this statement,” and identify social and practical difficulties, so the response is relevant to the question. However, the extent of your agreement is not explained, and the discussion only partly addresses the prompt: the social paragraph focuses on language and cultural behaviour, while the practical points are not clearly distinguished or developed. For instance, the restaurant example is difficult to follow and does not show precisely how limited language ability creates a practical problem. The conclusion shifts towards educating oneself about culture rather than summarising the specific problems or reinforcing your view. Develop each main point with a clear explanation and a directly relevant example, and state your position consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the labels “The social problem” and “The practical problems” give the reader a basic sense of organisation. However, progression within and between paragraphs is often unclear. The social paragraph moves from language barriers to offending others without clearly explaining the connection, and the practical paragraph about culture repeats an idea already raised. Linking phrases such as “Another problem” and “The second practical problem” are used, but they do not always establish a logical relationship between ideas. Some references, including “the who lives in a country,” make it hard to identify who is being discussed. Group related points, explain each in sequence, and use clearer references and transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “language barrier,” “national culture,” “misunderstanding” and “foreign country.” This gives you enough language to communicate the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make parts of the argument difficult to understand. Examples include “drowback,” “oftend others,” “Foe example” and “misconceptions” where the intended meaning is not fully clear. Phrases such as “finding a job” and “not appropriate for people who he serves” are not developed into precise descriptions of the difficulty. Build a wider set of accurate expressions for communication, employment and cultural adjustment, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a clause beginning “which means that” and a conditional idea with “might.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in sentence boundaries, agreement, articles and verb forms sometimes make meaning difficult to follow. For example, “a person coming from another country might not be able to speak and understand that the language” has an incomplete or incorrectly formed structure, while “people should educated themselves” is missing the appropriate verb form. Punctuation also causes problems, as in “The practical problems would be misunderstanding of culture. that means…”. Practise building complete sentences around one main idea, then check subject–verb agreement, articles and punctuation.
