Student answer (Band 5.5)
Speaking different language while living abroad can lead to challenges socially and practically. I fully agree this statement, as communication gaps create difficulties in both social and practical cases, which will be explained in this essay.
Living in a nation, which has a different language from mother tounge causes problems socially as the culture is different there, which is measured by communication through speaking. If a man doesn't get involved to the cultue by speaking native language, he will be neglected by the society. For an example, I went to England from Bangladesh for study purpose but I wasn't fluent in English speaking. One of my batchmates arranged a party there and all of my classmates were invited, except me because I wasn't a part of there culture, as I had a communication gap. Due to this, they neglected me. As a result, i was ignored by my classmates, who were native people. Therefore, this is a social problem caused for not being fluent in the foreign language.
On the other hand, challenges are faced in practical situations too. If we have to communicate with native residents such as receptionist, shopkeeper, waiters, who speaks the native language, it becomes very challenging to deliver the proper message to them, as they don't understand the words from the people of other countries, speaking in a foreign tone. As a result, it creates communication diffculties, as a native person often gets the wrong information and delivers the wrong message to the foreign person, which leads to a practical problem.
In conclusion, If a person lives in a foreign country and speaks a foreign language, it causes communication lackings, as they fail to deliver the proper idea, which causes several challenges both socially and practically.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I fully agree”) and conclusion, and you address both social and practical problems. The social point is supported with a relevant personal example about being excluded from a party in England, which helps explain the impact of limited language ability. The practical paragraph also identifies everyday interactions with receptionists, shopkeepers and waiters. However, this second point is less fully developed: the explanation that residents may misunderstand a foreign speaker remains general, with no specific situation or example. Some claims, such as being neglected because someone does not speak the native language, are presented too broadly. Develop each main idea with a precise explanation or example to make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for social and practical problems, and a conclusion. The progression from one type of difficulty to the other is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, particularly through repeated use of “as a result” and “which causes.” The social paragraph also repeats the idea of being neglected or ignored, while the practical paragraph circles around communication difficulties without advancing to a concrete example. Some references, such as “there” in “a part of there culture,” are unclear. Use a wider range of linking methods and make each sentence add a distinct step to the explanation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including relevant terms such as “communication gaps,” “native residents,” and “practical situations.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the meaning less natural. Examples include “communication lackings,” “speaking different language,” and “for study purpose”; more idiomatic phrasing would be “communication difficulties,” “speaking a different language,” and “for study purposes.” There are also spelling errors, including “tounge,” “cultue,” and “diffculties.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the argument, but careful proofreading and more precise collocations would improve clarity and control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional clauses (“If a man doesn't get involved…”) and cause-and-effect structures. The overall meaning is generally understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “a different language from mother tounge causes” needs an article and a more accurate noun phrase, while “receptionist, shopkeeper, waiters, who speaks” has problems with number agreement and the relative clause. There are also issues with articles and sentence boundaries, such as the capitalised “If” after the comma in the conclusion. Aim to check subject–verb agreement, articles, and punctuation, and vary sentence patterns while keeping clauses controlled.
