Student answer (Band 6.0)
Living in a country where you have to speak a foreign language can cause critical social and practical problems. I strongly support this argument because language barrier creates a lot of social and practical issues.
Foreign language creates a barrier in establishing social relationships with the people. People face a lot of communication problems in their daily life. Whether the conversation is formal or casual, it can be difficult. Majority of people feel isolated even in croweded and happening places. People express their emotions and feelings through conversation but foreign speakers never able to understand or feel those emotions. For instance, foreign students struggle to communicate with teachers and their class fellows. Foreign students always avoid presentations and public speaking.
People face practical issues along with social problems because both are interconnected somewhere. It has seen many times, people struggle to explain their medical issues even to a doctor due to language barrier. One of the practical issues is that foreign speakers always struggle to find a job. Without knowing the national language of a country, it is very frustrating to communicate with the local people so business owners or companies avoid to hire foreign people. For example, during studies, a lot of students try to find a odd job to support their studies and daily life expenses. It has seen, they get rejections due to language barrier.
To live in a country where speaking foreign language is compulsory and without knowing their language may raise several social and practical life problems such as difficulty in finding a new job or connecting with your housemates/classmates/colleagues etc. In that way, individuals experience homesickness and social anxiety issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that speaking a foreign language can create both social and practical problems. You address both parts with relevant examples, including isolation, difficulty communicating with teachers, medical communication, and barriers to employment. This gives the response a solid, relevant foundation. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that foreign speakers cannot understand or feel others’ emotions is too broad, and the job-search example could explain more specifically how limited language ability affects applications or workplace communication. The conclusion restates the main idea but adds little synthesis. The response covers the task well overall, while fuller development and more qualified claims would strengthen it further.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs on social and practical problems, and a concluding summary. The progression from relationships to employment and daily needs is generally understandable, and examples help readers follow the main points. However, links between ideas are sometimes mechanical or unclear. For instance, “because both are interconnected somewhere” does not explain the connection, while “In that way” in the conclusion has an uncertain reference. Several sentences repeat “people face” or “language barrier,” which makes the development feel list-like rather than smoothly connected. To improve, organise each body paragraph around one clear main idea, then explain and illustrate it, using precise referencing and a wider range of natural transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “social relationships,” “isolated,” “medical issues,” “language barrier,” and “homesickness.” These choices show awareness of the subject, and the reader can generally understand your meaning. However, the range is limited by repeated wording such as “people,” “problems,” and “struggle,” and some combinations are unnatural or imprecise: “happening places,” “a odd job,” and “avoid to hire” do not sound idiomatic. There are also spelling and word-form slips, such as “croweded.” Aim to use more precise collocations and vary repeated terms—for example, describe barriers to “forming relationships” or “securing employment”—while checking spelling and the natural pairing of words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, and most ideas remain understandable. For example, the sentence beginning “Without knowing the national language…” shows an attempt to explain a cause and its consequence. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction recur. Examples include “language barrier creates” (which needs an article), “People express … but foreign speakers never able to understand” (missing a finite verb), and “It has seen many times” (an incorrect construction). The final sentence also shifts awkwardly from “To live…” to “may raise.” These issues do not usually prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy. Practise complete clauses, subject–verb agreement, and consistent sentence patterns, then proofread each sentence for missing verbs and articles.
