Student answer (Band 4.5)

Living in a country where you spoke foreign language can cause seriously socalize problems also practical problems

I Agree with this statment because every country has its own language traditions culture so If we live in different countries we have to learn their language to live there this issue is very common becasue If you know there language u will speak and ask something If you dont know you it will cause alot of problems for you Its very common issue because If you dont know there language you will never ever make friends becasue if you dont talk with them of their language to never coordinate with them properly some peoples feel bad about even you go for shopping you will hesitate by talking because you dont know the language properly how to communicate its also cause practical problem If you ever go somewhere for job you dont know how to introduce yourself because if you dont introduce yourself properly how you will get the job and other issue is that if you are working somewhere they are of same language you will work with them because you dont therir language properly so its cause soo much problems and a big thing if you go somewhere for studies or job obviously you try to get the citizenship of that country but you dont know the language so you will never get that so its is the main social and practical problem living in a country to speak a foreign language

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that living where a foreign language is spoken can create both social and practical difficulties. You address social effects through examples such as struggling to make friends or feeling hesitant when shopping, and practical effects through job applications and workplace communication. These points are relevant, but they are mostly listed rather than explained or supported with a specific example. The claim that someone who does not know the language will “never ever make friends” is also too absolute. To develop the response further, explain how language barriers lead to particular consequences and include a concrete example, while making clear whether you agree completely or to a large extent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

The response follows a generally understandable line: it begins with your agreement, then moves through social and practical problems, and ends by restating the main point. However, almost all the ideas are placed in one long paragraph, so the reader has little help distinguishing the different points. Connections rely heavily on repeated “because” and “if” clauses, and the sequence sometimes becomes difficult to follow, particularly in the discussion of work and citizenship. Organise the essay into an introduction, separate body paragraphs for social and practical problems, and a conclusion. Use a wider range of linking expressions and clearer sentence boundaries so each example supports one main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “language,” “culture,” “communicate,” “introduce yourself,” and “citizenship,” so the main message can be understood. However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated frequently, especially “problem,” “language,” and “because.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice errors, such as “socalize,” “statment,” and “coordinate with them properly”; these make the writing less clear and natural. Aim to use accurate topic-specific phrases and vary repeated wording. For example, you could describe “social isolation,” “everyday interactions,” or “workplace communication,” while checking spelling and choosing collocations that fit the intended meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt to connect ideas using conditional and causal structures, for example, “If we live in different countries we have to learn their language” and “if you don’t know the language you will never ever make friends.” However, these extended sentences are often faulty or run together, and the limited punctuation makes relationships between clauses unclear. There are recurring problems with verb forms and sentence construction, as in “where you spoke foreign language” and “if you don’t talk with them of their language to never coordinate.” Articles and agreement also need attention. Practise writing shorter, complete sentences first, then combine ideas with accurate subordinate clauses and full stops. This will make your meaning easier to follow.
