Student answer (Band 5.0)

Today many people change their native country and immigrate abroad looking for some adventages or chance of jobs, so it be obligated to speak other language, that some groupes argue it may be a cause of serious social issues or practical problems. I am not agree with the main idea, and this essay will support my perspective.

Firstly, living abroad can not be a causes for forgeting native language, because people they live abroad in a part of their life in addition, they still conect with their family and friends that be causes for help them to keep their native language and use it in some where even if it was monthly, but it work for the purpose. Moreover for children they birth in foreign country after the immegration of their family, they still has their family to learn their native language or in the vaccation when they return to their native country and conect with their big family members.

Secondly, so social problems is if it was all those immegrate for three years they forget their native language at all, that is the problem, but we remark the inverse. Meanwile, the speaking of two or even three languges is such as a weapon in your hand that it open a lot of chance comparing with those speak only their own.

Finally, I believe that living in other country when you are obliged to speak other language to comunicate with others, it never lead to social problems or even practical issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

Your position is stated clearly: “I am not agree with the main idea,” and the essay gives reasons for disagreeing. However, the response only partially addresses the actual claim about serious social and practical problems caused by having to speak a foreign language. Most of the first body paragraph discusses whether immigrants forget their native language, which is not the same issue. The second paragraph briefly suggests that speaking several languages is beneficial, but does not explain how this prevents social or practical difficulties. To strengthen the response, address both types of problems directly—for example, difficulties accessing services or forming relationships—and support each point with a relevant example and explanation. The conclusion repeats your position without resolving these gaps.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” “Secondly” and “Finally” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear: the discussion moves from maintaining a native language to children learning it, then to multilingualism as an advantage, without clearly linking these points to the question’s social and practical problems. Some connections are also difficult to follow, particularly “Secondly, so social problems is if it was all those immegrate for three years…” Use topic sentences that state one relevant reason, then develop it in a logical sequence. Clearer referencing and fewer mechanical transitions would make the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “immigrate,” “native language,” “social issues,” “practical problems” and “communicate.” There are also attempts to express more complex ideas, such as describing multilingualism as “a weapon in your hand,” although this metaphor is not natural in this context. The range is limited, and repeated use of general words such as “problem,” “language” and “country” makes the argument imprecise. Several spelling and word-choice errors—such as “adventages,” “groupes,” “immegration” and “vaccation”—also make parts of the response harder to read. Build a more accurate topic vocabulary for barriers, services and social integration, and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “because” and “when.” However, complex sentences are often difficult to control, and frequent errors sometimes obscure the intended meaning. For example, “it be obligated to speak other language” has problems with the verb form and article, while “people they live abroad” uses an unnecessary subject pronoun. Agreement is also inconsistent in “they still has their family,” and the sentence beginning “Secondly, so social problems is…” is not grammatically complete. Practise building shorter, accurate sentences first, then combine ideas using one clear subordinate clause at a time. Pay particular attention to subject–verb agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence boundaries.
