Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify the broad contrast correctly: ownership rises over the period while renting generally falls, and you note the shared 50% figure in 1971. However, the overview is not fully accurate or clear: ownership peaks in 2001, but it is not the only high point, and the 2011 decline is omitted; renting reaches its minimum in 2001 before rising in 2011. Some comparisons are confused, including the claim that renting in 1953 is higher than ownership without giving the relevant figures, and “in 1916” is not a year shown on the chart. The response is also 2 words below the 150-word minimum; the 8 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Add accurate key figures and cover the final-year reversal.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has separate paragraphs and attempts an overview, followed by comparisons and a conclusion, so there is some basic organisation. However, the progression is difficult to follow because several comparisons are placed together without a clear sequence. For example, “While in 1981…” runs into “in 1953…” and then “In 1916…”, making the relationships between years unclear. The conclusion repeats earlier points rather than synthesising the main trend, and connectors such as “However,” “While,” and “In conclusion” do not always show a logical relationship. Organise the body chronologically or by ownership versus renting, and use clear linking phrases to guide each comparison.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “percentage,” “owned accommodation,” and “rented accommodation,” and the key topic remains recognisable. However, the range is basic and repetitive, with “households,” “accommodation,” and “high” repeated rather than using precise trend language. Several spelling errors—“rentted,” “accommodayion,” “accomodation,” and “accommmodation”—make the writing less clear and reduce accuracy. Phrases such as “households in renting are low” and “percentade are highest” are also unnatural or imprecise. Build a small set of accurate expressions for describing proportions and changes, such as “the share of owner-occupied homes rose” and “the proportion renting declined,” and check spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main topic can usually be understood. However, sentence control is uneven, especially where clauses are joined or comparisons are incomplete. For example, “households in owned accommodation in 1918 lowest percentage” lacks a finite verb, while “In 1971 households in owned and in renting accommodation are same” has missing articles and an awkward structure. The long sentence beginning “While in 1981…” does not form a clear grammatical sequence, and “in 1918 households in rented accommodation are maximum” uses an unsuitable tense for past data. Use complete past-tense clauses, with structures such as “Ownership was lowest in 1918, at 23%,” and separate each comparison into a clear sentence.
