Student answer (Band 5.5)

The given chart illustrates the proportion of owned household and rented accomodation in England and Wales between the years 1918 and 2011.

Looking forward to the household in rented accomodation gradually decreases over the year till 1991 and sees a slightly increases by 2011.Considering to the households in owned accomodation sees a increase in proportion over each decade.

Over the other hand it is seen that the ratio of households in owned accomodation passing by the year 1991 to 2011 holds almost the same proportion of households.comparing both the households of rented and owned,it is clearly seen that owned accomodations reaches its peak from the 1918 to 2011,1971 is the year where households of both rented and owned accomodation having thes same ratio of household.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two categories and describe the broad direction of change: renting generally falls, while ownership rises, with a small reversal near the end. You also correctly note that the figures meet at 50% in 1971. However, the response only partially reports the chart: it gives no specific percentages beyond that crossover, and the claim that ownership “holds almost the same proportion” from 1991 to 2011 overlooks the rise to about 69% in 2001 and fall to 64% in 2011. The overview is also unclear and does not highlight the main contrast between renting being dominant initially and ownership later. The response is 25 words below the required minimum, leaving important features underdeveloped. Add accurate key figures and a clearer overview.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic attempt to organise the response: an opening sentence is followed by comments on trends and a comparison, and the reader can identify the general subject. However, the progression is not consistently clear. The second paragraph moves between renting, ownership, and comparisons without a well-defined sequence, while “Over the other hand” and “comparing both” do not connect the ideas accurately. The sentence beginning “Looking forward” is difficult to follow, and the final comparison combines several points in one long sentence. Use a clear overview followed by a paragraph for the main trends, and connect each comparison explicitly. More accurate referencing and less mechanical linking would make the organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the topic, with relevant terms such as “proportion,” “ratio,” “peak,” and “gradually decreases.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. For example, “Looking forward to” is not suitable for describing a chart trend, “sees a slightly increases” is not a natural expression, and “passing by the year” does not clearly describe the period. There are also spelling errors in “accomodation” and “thes.” Aim for precise chart language such as “declined,” “rose,” “remained broadly stable,” and “reached a peak,” and check spelling and collocations carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentence forms, but control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence construction and agreement sometimes make the message difficult to follow. For example, “rented accomodation gradually decreases over the year till 1991” has an unclear time expression and tense, while “sees a slightly increases” combines incompatible verb forms. “Owned accomodations reaches its peak” also has a subject–verb agreement problem, and the final sentence lacks clear punctuation and a complete, controlled structure. Most statements rely on similar simple present-tense patterns, so the grammatical range is limited. Practise writing concise comparisons with accurate past-tense verbs, for example, “The proportion of renters fell until 1991, then rose slightly by 2011.”
