Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which significantly impacts the score. While you have identified the main features of the graph, the analysis is somewhat superficial and contains factual inaccuracies regarding the dates (e.g., citing 1981-2011 when the graph spans 1918-2011). The summary of trends is also confusing; for instance, stating that proportions 'declined and gradually rose' is vague and does not clearly distinguish between the two categories (owned vs. rented). To improve, ensure you carefully read the data axes and provide a more precise description of the trends, ensuring you meet the length requirement to fully develop your points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by unclear referencing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. Phrases like 'moving further to the remaining information' feel forced and do not effectively link the ideas. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'consequently', 'in contrast', 'subsequently') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, such as grouping data by category or time period rather than jumping between them.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms like 'showed', 'proportion', and 'information' throughout the text. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'calibrated in percentage' and 'in the begin of the period'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'remained stable', or 'experienced a downward trend'. Additionally, ensure you proofread for basic spelling and word-form errors, such as 'increased' instead of 'increase' and 'equally' instead of 'equal'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('england showed the less percentage'), incorrect verb tenses, and missing articles. The sentence structures are predominantly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization at the start of sentences. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct tense usage for historical data, and ensure that you use a mix of simple and complex structures to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
