The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The given graph illustrates the percentage of households that owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

Overall, a gradual increase is observed in the percentage of households that own their accommodation. However, the percentage of households that have rented accommodation decreased steadily during the time period.

Initially, the proportion of owned accommodation has grown throughout the years. At the outset, the percentage was 24% and saw its peak in 2001 with a percentage of nearly 70% in 2001. However, after a decade, a slight drop was noticed, and it came to 65%.

Nevertheless, the percentage of rented accommodation reports a reverse trend. It begins from its peak of 77%. After it reaches its highest point, a fall can be seen in the percentage of rented accommodation. It drastically reduced from 77% to 31% between 1918 and 2001. In a decade, it rose to 37% in 2011.
