Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers the main trends and provides data points to support the description. However, the overview is somewhat weak and contains inaccuracies; for instance, stating there was 'no sudden changes in the year 1971' is not a clear analytical summary. The data selection is generally relevant, but the reporting of figures is occasionally imprecise or confusing, such as the reference to 'pupils' instead of households. To reach a higher band, ensure the overview highlights the most significant shifts—specifically the crossover point where ownership overtook renting—and avoid listing data points without clear comparative analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of information. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'In the early year of 1918 to 1961'. Some transitions between sentences are abrupt, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. While the logical flow is generally maintained, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the repetitive structure of the sentences limit the effectiveness of the cohesion. Improving the variety of transition signals would enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of inappropriate word choice, such as 'habitats' to describe housing and 'pupils' to refer to the general population. Additionally, there are minor spelling errors like 'intrested' and 'intrest'. The range of vocabulary is limited, relying heavily on basic terms like 'owned' and 'rented'. To improve, you should incorporate more precise terminology related to trends and data, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'surpassed', and ensure words are used in their correct context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response contains a mix of simple and some attempted complex structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, including missing articles ('in the England and Wales'), incorrect verb forms ('more prefering'), and issues with subject-verb agreement ('there is completely stability'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the placement of full stops and commas. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for article usage and verb tense consistency would significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
