Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the chart, but the data interpretation is frequently inaccurate. For example, stating that owned accommodation 'increases by 20 percent' and then 'gradually decrease by 65 percent' does not align with the provided graph. The overview is also confusing, as it repeats the inaccurate figures rather than highlighting the clear long-term trends, such as the inversion of the two categories over the century. Because the data reporting is consistently flawed and the main trends are not clearly identified, the response fails to fully address the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is hindered by the inaccurate data reporting. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'Overall', but they are sometimes used mechanically or inappropriately given the context of the data. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the intended comparison between the two categories. Improved paragraph structure and more precise linking words would help the flow of information.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. Words like 'increase', 'decrease', and 'gradually' are used frequently, often with incorrect collocations or inaccurate data descriptions. There is little evidence of less common lexical items or an attempt to use precise terminology related to data analysis (e.g., 'fluctuate', 'peak', 'surpass'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the lack of variety and the misuse of terms to describe trends limit the score in this criterion.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('Households... increases'), incorrect verb tenses ('have downfall'), and awkward phrasing ('as compare to previous years'). There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the punctuation is inconsistent, particularly with capitalization. While the errors do not completely prevent communication, they are frequent enough to cause some difficulty for the reader and indicate a limited control over sentence construction.
