Student answer (Band 6.5)
This bar chart compares the proportion of households who owns their home with those living in rented accommodations in England and Whales from 1918 to 2011.Overall the two trends move in opposite directions but they have both crossed in 1971 before that households in rented accommodations were higher and households in owned accommodations were far lower but after 1971 households in owned accommodations increased steadily and percentage of rented accommodations reduced this trend started to reset again in 2011.
As we can see the percentage of households in owned accommodation were 23 in 1918 but the percentage of households in rented accommodations was 78 then in 1939 to 1953 the owned percentage remained same on 31 and similarly the rented stayed on 68 .Then there is a huge difference in
1961 the owned percentage rose to 41 and rented reduced to 59.Both of the percentages become equal on 1971.
After 1971 the owned increased to 60 and rented decreased to 40 and then it looks like the percentages becomes constant for 2 decades. In 1991 and 2001 rented remained on 31 percent and owned remained on 68.But trend started to change in 2011 as the rented started growing and reached 37 percent and owned decreased to 62.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response covers the main features of the chart well, identifying the key trends and the point of intersection in 1971. You successfully highlight the shift from rented to owned accommodation and the subsequent reversal in 2011. However, the overview is slightly underdeveloped; while you mention the trends move in opposite directions, it could be more precise regarding the overall magnitude of change. The data reporting is generally accurate, though there are minor inconsistencies in the figures provided (e.g., stating 68 percent for owned in 1991/2001 when the chart indicates a different value). Overall, you have addressed all parts of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into three paragraphs: an introduction with an overview, a body paragraph for the early period, and a final paragraph for the later period. The progression of ideas is clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on simple connectors like 'then' and 'but'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate a wider variety of linking words and phrases to improve the flow between sentences and ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the transition between the overview and the body could be smoother.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'trends', and 'accommodation' correctly. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'trend started to reset again'. There are also minor spelling errors, such as 'Whales' instead of 'Wales'. To improve, try to use more precise collocations and a greater variety of verbs to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'surpassed', or 'remained stable', rather than repeating 'increased' or 'reduced'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally affect readability. For example, 'households in owned accommodation were 23' should be 'the percentage of households... was 23'. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and article usage (e.g., 'the owned increased' instead of 'the percentage of owned homes increased'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on consistent verb tenses and correct noun-phrase construction will help improve your accuracy.
