Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, reaching only 86 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. The overview is underdeveloped, and the response stops abruptly after providing only one data point from 1918. To improve, you must provide a comprehensive summary that covers the entire period (1918–2011), highlights the main trends, and makes clear comparisons between the two categories throughout the timeframe. The current length prevents a full development of the key features required for an Academic Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The response is too short to demonstrate effective paragraphing or a logical progression of ideas. While there is a basic attempt at an introduction and an overview, the lack of development makes it difficult to assess the use of cohesive devices. The sentences are fragmented and do not flow into a coherent report. To improve, ensure you structure your response with a clear introduction, a distinct overview paragraph, and two body paragraphs that group data logically, using linking words like 'whereas', 'in contrast', or 'subsequently' to connect your ideas.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. Phrases like 'top seat was notched' are slightly unnatural in this context. There are also errors in basic terminology, such as 'owing' instead of 'owned'. To achieve a higher band, you need to use a wider range of vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'witnessed a significant increase', or 'surpassed'. Focus on using precise terminology related to data description rather than informal or imprecise phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains several grammatical errors, such as 'The year under observation are 1918 and 2011' (should be 'is') and 'bar chart .Showcasing' (incorrect punctuation and sentence structure). The sentence structures are simple and lack the complexity required for higher bands. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that every sentence is complete. Practice using a mix of simple and complex sentences, and pay close attention to punctuation, particularly avoiding spaces before periods.
