Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the data and provides a clear overview of the trends. You successfully identified the starting point, the crossover point in 1971, and the final figures in 2011. However, the report lacks a clear 'overview' paragraph, which is essential for a high band score in Academic Task 1. While you mention the trends, they are embedded within the body paragraphs rather than being highlighted as a summary of the most significant changes. To improve, ensure you include a distinct overview paragraph that highlights the overall shift from renting to owning over the 93-year period.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized chronologically, which makes the information easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices like 'Moreover' and 'At the end', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The paragraphing is logical, but the connection between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the 1981 data and the 90s could be improved to better link the progression of time. Overall, the information is presented in a coherent manner, but the use of cohesive devices needs to be more varied and natural to reach a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the main points, such as 'proportion', 'residential units', and 'accommodation'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'leased residence', 'rented the place by the families', and 'renting the houses to shifted to owning'. These errors occasionally make the text feel slightly unnatural. To improve, focus on learning common collocations related to data description, such as 'home ownership rates' or 'the proportion of rented accommodation'. Expanding your range of synonyms for 'increase' and 'decrease' would also be beneficial.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with prepositions and verb forms, such as 'between in the span of', 'rented the housing approximately 78%', and 'renting was 38%'. Additionally, there are issues with sentence construction, such as 'were 60% of families owned in accommodation'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently enough to affect the clarity of your writing. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of passive voice for describing data will help improve your accuracy.
