Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response provides a summary of the main features of the chart, including the overall trends and specific data points. However, the accuracy of the data reporting is inconsistent. For instance, the statement that '20% households sold out' is confusing and inaccurate, as the chart tracks ownership, not sales. Additionally, some figures are misread or poorly explained, such as the claim that the ratio was 'equal' in 1971, which is not clearly supported by the visual data. While the main trends (the rise in ownership and the decline in renting) are identified, the lack of precision in describing the data points limits the effectiveness of the summary.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is often hindered by awkward phrasing and unclear referencing. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Additionally' and 'Furthermore', but they are sometimes applied mechanically or incorrectly, which disrupts the flow of information. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is somewhat abrupt. While the overall arrangement is coherent enough to be understood, the lack of smooth transitions and occasional confusion regarding which data point is being discussed prevents a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally limited and repetitive. There are several instances of incorrect word choice, such as 'sold out' instead of 'owned', and 'ratio was grew' instead of 'the ratio grew'. Spelling errors are frequent, including 'approximetly', 'housholds', 'equall', 'porpostion', and 'silmilar'. These errors occasionally cause the reader to pause, though the general meaning remains clear. To improve, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description (e.g., 'proportion', 'percentage', 'fluctuated', 'peaked') and ensure that you are using the correct parts of speech.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response relies on a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('the ratio was grew'), incorrect tense usage, and missing articles. For example, 'In the given vertical bar chart depicts that...' is grammatically incorrect as it contains both a prepositional phrase and a verb that do not align. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with commas. While the meaning is usually discernible, the high frequency of errors in basic sentence construction prevents the writing from reaching a higher band level.
