The bar chart compares the proportion of households owners and households rented accommodation in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response covers the requirements of the task well. You have identified the main trends and provided specific data points to support your descriptions. The overview clearly highlights the inverse relationship between the two categories. However, the summary could be improved by ensuring the data points are consistently accurate; for instance, the claim that renters were the highest proportion throughout the period is slightly inaccurate as owners surpassed them in the latter half of the century. Overall, the response is well-focused and provides a clear summary of the key features of the chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on specific time periods. Cohesive devices such as 'In contrast', 'Looking at the bar chart in more detail', and 'By contrast' are used effectively to guide the reader. The progression of ideas is clear, moving from the start of the period to the end. While the transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is functional, a slightly more sophisticated use of linking phrases would enhance the flow further.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', 'constituted', and 'remained stable'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'households owners' (should be 'homeowners' or 'households that owned their accommodation') and 'renters shared the highest proportion' (which is slightly unnatural). However, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly throughout the report, and you avoid repetitive phrasing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are some grammatical errors, such as 'the percentage of household owners was increased' (passive voice error; should be 'increased') and 'before experienced a decline' (should be 'before experiencing'). Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the punctuation is generally accurate. To reach a higher band, focus on ensuring consistent verb tenses and avoiding unnecessary passive constructions when describing trends.
