Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the chart and provides a clear overview. You successfully identified the key trends, such as the inverse relationship between owned and rented accommodation over the period. However, the report could be improved by grouping the data more analytically rather than listing figures chronologically. For instance, highlighting the point of intersection or the most significant periods of change would demonstrate a higher level of data synthesis. The information is accurate, but the presentation is somewhat mechanical, which prevents it from reaching the higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs focusing on the two categories. The progression of ideas is generally clear. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and basic (e.g., 'In 1918', 'In 1939', 'In 1961'). To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect sentences and show relationships between the data points, such as 'Conversely', 'In contrast', or 'Following this trend'.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey the information, using terms like 'proportion', 'accounted for', and 'remained constant'. However, there are some inaccuracies and awkward phrasing, such as 'data for owned houses was 40 percent' and 'rosed to about 70'. The word 'percentage' is used incorrectly in places where 'percent' or 'proportion' would be more appropriate. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive sentence structures when describing numerical changes.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('the proportion', 'the percentage'), incorrect verb forms ('rosed' instead of 'rose'), and punctuation issues. Some sentences are slightly disjointed due to these errors. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles when referring to specific data points. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free will help improve your score.
