Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response covers the main features of the chart and makes relevant comparisons. You correctly identify the key trends, such as the crossover point in 1971 and the general shift from renting to owning. However, there is a significant error in the introduction: you state the period is '1981 to 2011', whereas the chart clearly shows data starting from 1918. This inaccuracy affects the overall accuracy of the task completion. While the main trends are described, the summary could be more precise by grouping data more effectively rather than listing figures chronologically, which makes the report feel slightly mechanical.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the information. You use some cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'However' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes repetitive or slightly unnatural. The progression of ideas within paragraphs is generally clear, but the transition between the description of owned and rented housing could be smoother. Referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as when you refer to 'the ratio' without clearly specifying which category you are discussing, which forces the reader to look back at previous sentences to clarify the meaning.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'plummeted', and 'surpassed'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'gradual increased' (should be 'gradually increased') and 'the ratio was remained same' (should be 'remained the same'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on using more varied reporting verbs and adverbs to describe trends, and ensure that your word forms (adjective vs. adverb) are used correctly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'people lived more in rented houses than their owned house' (should be 'than in owned houses'), 'the percentage was about 23% in 1918 and gradual increased by 32%' (should be 'increased to 32%'), and 'the ratio was remained same'. These errors are noticeable and occur in both simple and complex structures. Improving your control over verb tenses and prepositions will significantly enhance the accuracy and readability of your work.
