Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the initial percentages in 1918 and the trends up to 2011. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the depth of the analysis. While the main trends are identified, the description of the data is somewhat mechanical and lacks a clear overview or summary of the most significant changes. The conclusion is also inaccurate, as it states that rented accommodation had a higher percentage overall, which contradicts the data showing that owned accommodation became the dominant form for most of the period. The response would benefit from more precise data reporting and a clearer summary of the overall shift in trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat repetitive and occasionally awkward, such as 'From the given information it is lucid that' and 'Moreover on the other hand'. The progression of ideas is generally logical, moving from the start of the period to the end, but the transitions between sentences could be smoother. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the paragraphing is basic. To improve, you should use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear focus, avoiding repetitive sentence starters.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on basic terms like 'families', 'places', and 'percentage'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'percentile' (which refers to a statistical measure, not a percentage) and 'incline' (which is not typically used to describe a trend in this context). The phrasing 'families lives in own and rented places' is grammatically incorrect and uses informal vocabulary. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'surpassed', or 'predominant'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('The bar graph reveal', 'families lives'), incorrect verb tenses ('is started to decline'), and missing articles. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with limited attempts at complex sentences. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with unnecessary spaces before commas and periods. While the meaning is generally clear, these persistent errors in basic grammar and sentence construction limit the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage would significantly improve the clarity and quality of your writing.
