Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 150 words, which negatively impacts the score. While you have identified the main trends, the summary is incomplete. The overview is poorly constructed and contains confusing phrasing, such as 'in begin citizens... prefered having rented households'. You have successfully selected key data points, but the lack of sufficient length and the unclear overview prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure you provide a clear, concise overview that highlights the most significant trends without listing too many specific figures, and ensure you meet the minimum word count to fully develop your analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by awkward phrasing and some mechanical use of cohesive devices. For example, the transition 'To begin with 1918' is slightly unnatural in this context. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the overall flow between the introduction, overview, and body paragraphs could be smoother. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through the data.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You rely on basic descriptors like 'slight downfall' and 'slight decline'. There are also some errors in word choice, such as 'paramount reduction', which is not the correct collocation for describing a decrease in statistics. To improve, aim to use more precise academic vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuation', 'dramatic', or 'gradual', and ensure you are using collocations correctly to convey your meaning more effectively.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. For instance, 'households in rented accommodation was highest' contains a subject-verb agreement error, and 'around of 31%' is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with punctuation and sentence construction throughout the text. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Proofreading your work for basic errors in tense and pluralisation will help you achieve a higher level of accuracy.
