Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response attempts to summarize the chart but fails to provide a clear overview or highlight the key trends effectively. While it mentions the starting point in 1918, the description of the trends is confusing and inaccurate. For example, the statement that the percentage of rented houses 'enhance year by year' contradicts the data, which shows a clear decline in rented accommodation over the period. Furthermore, the response includes irrelevant personal speculation about the economic reasons for housing trends, which is not supported by the provided chart. To improve, focus on reporting the actual data points and identifying the main trends, such as the crossover point where ownership overtook renting.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical flow is weak. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'To commence with' and 'Likely', which do not fit the context of a data summary. The progression of ideas is difficult to follow because the sentences are disjointed and the referencing is unclear. For instance, the transition between the description of the chart and the historical commentary is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of the writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and often inaccurate. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'houses on temporary rental basis' and 'give prefer their own houses'. The word choice is repetitive and lacks the precision required for an academic report. The student struggles with basic collocations, such as 'earn amount to bear their own house cost'. To reach a higher band, you should focus on using more precise terminology related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', 'declined', and 'surpassed', rather than relying on informal or non-standard expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with subject-verb agreement ('the percentage of rented houses is far more'), tense consistency, and sentence structure. Many sentences are poorly constructed, making the intended meaning unclear, such as 'in 1939-1953 in this period predominantly, individual lived in their owned accommodation'. There is a lack of complex sentence structures, and the errors in basic grammar are persistent. Focusing on sentence construction, correct verb tenses, and subject-verb agreement will help improve the accuracy and readability of your work.
