Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.5

The response attempts to summarize the data but fails to provide a clear overview of the main trends. The information is often inaccurate or confusing, such as the claim that rented accommodation increased to 80% in 1918, which contradicts the visual data. The description of the trends is disjointed and lacks a logical selection of key features. While the response identifies the 1971 crossover point, the overall reporting of the data is inconsistent and lacks the necessary clarity to fully address the task requirements. The analysis is largely descriptive of individual points rather than synthesizing the overall trends.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is mechanical and often misused, such as 'Firstly' and 'secondly' which do not effectively structure the comparison of the two categories. There is a lack of clear referencing, and the flow between sentences is frequently interrupted by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. The overall structure is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the comparison between owned and rented accommodation trends over the specified period.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive. There are frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'outwards themselves', 'trend level of percentage', and 'expended' (likely meant 'expanded' or 'increased'). The student relies on basic terminology and struggles to express the data accurately. The misuse of terms like 'boosted' and 'declined in' indicates a lack of precision. To improve, the student needs to learn how to describe trends using more accurate verbs and nouns, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'remained stable'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are significant issues with sentence structure, subject-verb agreement, and preposition usage (e.g., 'in 1918 has been rented households expenses increased'). The use of complex structures is attempted but is consistently inaccurate, leading to confusion. Punctuation is also problematic, with inconsistent capitalization and comma usage. The majority of sentences contain errors, and the lack of control over basic grammar significantly limits the clarity of the report.
