Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response covers the main features of the chart, such as the initial dominance of rented accommodation and the subsequent shift toward ownership. However, there are significant inaccuracies in the data interpretation. For instance, you state that in the early 1900s, owned accommodation was above 70%, whereas the chart shows it was below 30%. Additionally, the claim that ownership increased by 'at least over 20% each year' from 1981-2011 is a misreading of the data. While you identify the main trends, the factual errors regarding the figures prevent a higher score. To improve, ensure that your summary of the data aligns precisely with the visual information provided.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The response is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the logical progression is hindered by the factual inaccuracies mentioned in the task achievement section. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'According to the chart' and 'In summary', but some transitions feel mechanical. The referencing is occasionally unclear, particularly when discussing the 'equilibrium' in 1971 without clearly contrasting the two categories. Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that comparisons are logically linked will help elevate your score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'equilibrium', 'fluctuation', and 'percentage'. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'ash color' (instead of 'grey' or 'shaded area') and 'owned apartments' (when the prompt specifies 'households'). There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'owed' instead of 'owned'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology related to data description and ensure that your vocabulary is consistently accurate throughout the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity, such as 'the houses in owned apartments were above 70%' and 'households in owned accommodation took an increase'. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with comma usage and sentence construction. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and ensure that your sentence structures are grammatically sound. Practicing the use of complex sentences will also help you demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
