Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the chart, but the information provided is often inaccurate or contradictory. For example, you state that owned accommodation followed an upward trend, yet later describe it reaching its lowest point in 2001, which is confusing. The data interpretation is frequently incorrect; you mention 1971 as a point where both were 9, which is not supported by the chart. Furthermore, the description of trends lacks precision and fails to clearly highlight the key crossover point or the significant shifts over the decades. To improve, focus on accurately reporting the data points and identifying the most significant changes rather than listing years without clear context.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by unclear referencing and awkward phrasing. For instance, the transition 'Whether as, in the 1971' is grammatically incorrect and confusing. While you use some cohesive devices like 'Additionally' and 'Overall', they are often used to link poorly formed ideas. The relationship between sentences is sometimes difficult to follow, making the overall flow mechanical. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The range of vocabulary is limited and often repetitive. You frequently use basic terms like 'house', 'data', and 'time' where more precise academic vocabulary is required. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'downfall time' and 'allow their house on rent'. These errors occasionally make the meaning unclear. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary related to trends and statistics, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', 'declined', or 'proportion'. Focusing on accurate collocations will also help you convey your points more professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'households in owned accommodation was followed') and article usage. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and attempts at complex sentences often result in errors, such as 'In 1939 and 1953 the data of rented ratio is equal.' Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring that subjects and verbs agree, and practicing the correct use of articles and prepositions. Reducing the number of errors in simple sentences should be your primary goal.
