The chart below shows the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales between 1918 and 2011.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

The bar chat below illustrates of households in owned accommodation and household in rented accommodation in England and Wales from the year 1918 to 2011.

Overall, the percentage of households in owned accommodation increased steadily through out the period, while households in rented accommodation decreased. Households in owned accommodation recorded the highest percentage from the beginning while households in rented accommodation decreased recorded lowest during start of the year.

In 1918, 78 percent of people owned the houses they lived in compared to around 22 percent of households in rented accommodation, the percentage of households in owned accommodation now decreased gradually reaching about 50 percent in 1971 before regressing rapidly to 31 percent in 2001, before increasing ever slightly to approximately 35 percent. In contrast that of households in rented accommodation started at 22 percent in 1918, increasing gradually to 50 percent in 1971 before increasing rapidly to about 69 percent in 2001, before slightly regressing to approximately 65 percent.
