Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response attempts to summarize the main features of the chart, but the analysis is inconsistent and lacks clarity. While you identify the general trends, the data reporting is often inaccurate or confusing, such as the claim that rented accommodation stood at 50% in 1971 and then saw a 'sharp decline' in 1991. The overview is present but poorly articulated, and the response ends abruptly mid-sentence, leaving the task incomplete. To improve, ensure you select key data points accurately and provide a clear, coherent summary of the overall trends without relying on vague descriptions.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay lacks a logical flow. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the transition between ideas is mechanical and often confusing. The use of cohesive devices is limited and sometimes misused, such as the repetitive use of 'while' and 'whereas' without clear logical connection. The referencing is frequently unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the data. The abrupt ending further disrupts the coherence of the response. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear focus would significantly enhance the structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'accomodation' (misspelled throughout) and 'least figure'. You rely on a limited range of words to describe trends, such as 'increased' and 'decreased', without using more precise academic vocabulary like 'fluctuated', 'surpassed', or 'remained stable'. The lack of variety and the persistent spelling errors limit the score. To reach a higher band, focus on learning topic-specific vocabulary related to data description and ensure you proofread for common spelling mistakes.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are issues with sentence structure, such as fragments and run-on sentences (e.g., 'At the beginning the highest rate of households in rented over a period and at the ending it seen been sharp decline'). Subject-verb agreement and article usage are also inconsistent. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty, leading to a lack of clarity. Focusing on basic sentence construction and ensuring subject-verb agreement will help improve the accuracy of your writing.
