Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response identifies the main trends, such as the initial dominance of rented accommodation and the subsequent rise in home ownership. However, the report lacks precision in data reporting. For instance, the reference to 'year 119' is a clear error, and the description of the data is often vague, such as 'middle year remain similar'. The summary of the trends is somewhat disjointed, and the comparison between the two categories could be more effectively highlighted. To improve, you should focus on selecting key data points more accurately and ensuring that the overview clearly captures the significant shift in the proportions over the entire period.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into paragraphs, which helps the overall structure. However, the flow of information is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and a lack of cohesive devices. Transitions between sentences are often missing or mechanical, such as 'moving ahead in year 1971'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the progression of the data. To reach a higher band, you need to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, logical focus that connects smoothly to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive, relying on basic terms like 'highest value', 'similar', and 'percentage'. There are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'data has been calibrated in percentage' and 'Fleeting a glance'. Some phrasing is unnatural, which occasionally impedes the clarity of the message. To improve, you should aim to use more varied vocabulary to describe trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'remained stable', 'surpassed', or 'accounted for', and ensure that your word choices are contextually appropriate for an academic report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement, missing articles, and incorrect preposition usage (e.g., 'households in owned in England'). Sentence structures are generally simple, and attempts at more complex sentences often result in errors that affect readability. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with irregular spacing and capitalization issues. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for minor errors like missing articles or incorrect word forms. Increasing the variety of sentence structures will also help demonstrate better control.
