Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response covers the main trends and provides data points to support the description. However, the analysis is hampered by significant inaccuracies in reporting the data. For instance, stating that rented accommodation was 77% in 1918 is inaccurate based on the chart, and the description of the 1953 and 1961 data is confusing and lacks precision. While the overview identifies the general trends of increasing ownership and decreasing rental, the lack of clarity in reporting specific figures prevents a higher score. To improve, ensure that data points are read accurately from the axes and that comparisons are made more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and mechanical use of cohesive devices. Phrases like 'At a fleeting glance' and 'Moving further' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is often disjointed. The referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when discussing the trends between 1953 and 1961. The use of 'Respectively' is misused, as it does not follow a list of two items that corresponds to another list. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence follows logically from the previous one will enhance coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. There are several instances of non-standard word choices or incorrect collocations, such as 'caliberated into percentage', 'fluctuated incline', and 'percentille'. The student attempts to use academic vocabulary, but the lack of precision in word choice often leads to confusion. For example, 'estimately' is not a standard adverb. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise terminology for describing trends, such as 'proportion', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable', and ensure that words are used in their correct grammatical form.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The response contains a high frequency of grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. There are frequent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'The given vertical bar represent'), missing articles, and incorrect verb tenses (e.g., 'the ratio remain similar'). Sentence structures are often simplistic or incorrectly constructed, such as 'in 1961 slightly increase in ratio about 40% and 60%'. While there is an attempt to use complex structures, they are often faulty. A focus on basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and correct tense usage is necessary to improve the accuracy of the writing.
