Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response covers all key features of the chart, including the initial figures, the crossover point, and the final trends. You have successfully identified the main trends and made relevant comparisons between the two categories. The overview is clear and highlights the significant shift in housing tenure over the period. To reach a higher band, ensure that all data points are described with precision; for example, stating 'the half of the residents owning accommodation' is slightly awkward. Overall, the response is well-focused and addresses the prompt effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized, with a clear introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs that group the data by category. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Overall', 'However', and 'As for', which help guide the reader. However, the transition between sentences could be more varied to avoid a slightly mechanical feel. The use of referencing is generally clear, though some sentences could be linked more fluidly to improve the overall flow of the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'remained unchanged', and 'surpassed'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'owning house' instead of 'home ownership' or 'households in renting'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Expanding your repertoire of reporting verbs and noun phrases related to trends would enhance the quality of your writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'people used to rent more back in the days' (informal phrasing) and 'the half of the residents owning accommodation' (missing verb/article error). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some minor issues with comma placement and spacing. The majority of your sentences are error-free, but more consistent control over complex structures is needed to reach a higher band.
