The bar chart compares the proportion of homes in owned and rented apartments in England and Whales form 1918 to 2011.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response provides a clear overview and identifies key trends, such as the crossover point in 1971. However, the response is under the 150-word minimum, which limits the depth of the analysis. While the main features are highlighted, the brevity prevents a more thorough exploration of the data points. The inclusion of 'Whales' instead of 'Wales' is a minor factual error in the introduction. To improve, ensure all data points are fully described and the word count requirement is met to allow for a more comprehensive summary of the provided chart.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is logically organized into an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs. The use of cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'In 1918', and 'In contrast' helps guide the reader through the data. However, the progression of ideas is slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more balanced. The transition between the overview and the body paragraphs is clear, but the overall flow would benefit from more varied linking phrases to connect the trends in owned and rented accommodation more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, using terms like 'proportion', 'significantly', 'gradually', and 'steady'. However, there are some inaccuracies, such as referring to 'rented apartments' when the prompt specifies 'rented accommodation', and the misspelling of 'Wales'. The range of vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive, relying on basic descriptors. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more precise academic vocabulary related to trends and data, such as 'fluctuated', 'peaked', or 'surpassed', and ensure accurate terminology is used throughout.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'household in rented apartments decreased' (should be plural) and 'reaching the same level with owned accommodation' (preposition error). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some issues with spacing and comma usage. While the errors do not significantly impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct preposition usage will help improve your accuracy.
