Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
You have successfully identified the main trends and provided a clear overview of the data. You highlighted the key shift from rented to owned accommodation over the period. However, the response lacks precision in reporting specific data points. For example, stating that 1939 and 1953 had 'almost similar' percentages of 65% is confusing, as the chart shows distinct values. Additionally, some comparisons are slightly inaccurate or difficult to follow, such as the mention of 1961 and 1981. To reach a higher band, ensure that the data cited directly matches the visual information provided in the chart and avoid vague descriptions when specific figures are available.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs. You use some cohesive devices like 'In contrast' and 'Whereas' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly when comparing multiple years. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a more seamless narrative throughout the report.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'drastically increased', 'declined', and 'shift in preferences'. However, there are several instances of unnatural word choices and minor errors, such as 'percentage of residentials' (should be 'residents' or 'households') and 'people own houses percentage' (should be 'the percentage of people who owned houses'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise academic collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'rented homes percentage got decreased', 'in year 1918 people own houses percentage was', and 'Slight change has been happened'. These errors, particularly regarding verb tense and article usage, are noticeable. While they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your meaning, they indicate a lack of control over complex structures. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
