Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response identifies the main trends, such as the overall increase in home ownership and the decline in renting. However, the report is marred by significant inaccuracies in data reporting. For example, you state that 75% were rented in 1918, but the graph shows a much higher figure. Furthermore, the description of the data is often confusing, particularly when discussing the crossover point in 1971. The reporting of specific years and percentages is inconsistent and sometimes contradictory, which makes it difficult for the reader to follow the trends accurately. To improve, ensure that you carefully verify the data points against the graph and present them in a logical, chronological order.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the internal flow is problematic. The use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or misused, such as 'In detail' and 'After that', which do not always logically connect the sentences. The progression of ideas is hindered by the repetitive structure of the sentences and the lack of clear referencing. For instance, the transition between the discussion of owned and rented accommodation is abrupt and confusing. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, singular focus that guides the reader through the information.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is somewhat limited and repetitive. You frequently use basic verbs like 'increased', 'decreased', and 'reached', which restricts the sophistication of the report. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'the figure of households' and 'purchased house figure rise up'. These errors occasionally impede the clarity of the message. To improve, try to incorporate more precise vocabulary related to trends, such as 'fluctuated', 'surpassed', or 'remained stable', and ensure that you use nouns and verbs correctly in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include incorrect verb tenses ('was decreased', 'were inclined'), missing articles, and subject-verb agreement errors ('decards year it were agin declined'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with misplaced periods and capitalization issues. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the text from reaching a higher band. Focus on mastering basic sentence construction and proofreading for common errors like tense consistency and pluralization.
