Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response covers the main trends and provides data points to support the description. However, the report is essentially a list of figures rather than a cohesive summary. While you identified the overall trends, the analysis lacks a clear comparison between the two categories throughout the period. For instance, the data for 1953 and 2011 contains inaccuracies compared to the source, and the reporting of figures is somewhat repetitive. To improve, focus on grouping data points to highlight the most significant changes rather than listing every year individually, and ensure the data extracted from the chart is precise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into an introduction, an overview, and body paragraphs, which provides a basic structure. However, the progression of ideas is mechanical. You rely heavily on simple sentence structures to list data, which hinders the flow. Cohesive devices are limited; for example, you use 'In detail' and 'Interestingly' to start paragraphs, but there is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect the trends between the two categories. The paragraphing is acceptable, but the internal cohesion within paragraphs needs more variety to guide the reader through the data effectively.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You frequently repeat words like 'percentage', 'houses', 'rented', and 'owned'. There are also some spelling errors, such as 'accomdation' and 'ownded', and awkward phrasing like 'touched it 68 percent'. To reach a higher band, you should use a wider range of synonyms and collocations related to data description, such as 'proportion', 'figures', 'accommodation', 'fluctuated', or 'remained stable'. The current range is sufficient to convey the basic meaning but does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response uses a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but accuracy is inconsistent. There are frequent errors in articles ('the percentage of owned house'), subject-verb agreement, and preposition usage ('increased by time period'). Additionally, some sentences are grammatically awkward, such as '69 houses were bought and 31 houses were rented', which is factually confusing as it refers to percentages. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from being considered fluent or highly accurate. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for small errors would be beneficial.
